Engineering Assistant
The Engineering Assistant will support the maintenance and engineering team in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Power Plant through preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and accurate record-keeping in accordance with compliance policies and safety standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Education & Certification:
+ High school diploma or ITVET Class II certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related technical field,
+ Trade certification is an asset.
Experience:
+ Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in a maintenance, industrial plant or power generation environment preferred
+ Entry level candidates with strong technical training may be considered
Skills, Abilities, and Personal Attributes :
+ Basic understanding of mechanical systems
+ Ability to use hand and power tools safely
+ Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices
+ Ability to read basic technical drawings and manuals (preferred)
+ Good record-keeping and reporting skills
+ Strong teamwork, communication skills, and willingness to learn
Role s and Responsibilities:
Maintenance Support:
+ Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical and auxiliary plant equipment.
+ Support troubleshooting and repair of turbines, generators, pumps, boilers, compressors, and hydraulic systems.
+ Clean, lubricate, replace worn components and boiler valve maintenance as directed.
Inspection and Monitoring:
+ Conduct routine equipment inspections and cleaning, including but not limited to boiler furnaces and report abnormalities.
+ Record opening parameters, maintenance activities, and equipment condition.
Safety and Compliance:
+ Comply with all workplace health and safety and environmental procedures.
+ Always use personal protective equipment (PPE).
+ Participate in safety drills, toolbox talks and incident reporting.
Team & Operational Support:
+ Provide general assistance to the engineers, technicians, and contractors.
+ Support emergency repairs and respond to plant breakdowns when required.
+ Participate in continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives.
