Engineer Staff - Heavy Tire Compounding
**Primary Purpose of the Position** The Engineer Staff Compound Technology Commercial primary focus is to utilize the right processes & tools to efficiently and effectively develop and maintain our compound line-up portfolio Commercial Radial Medium Truck tire lines. + The Engineer Staff Compound Technology Commercial will be responsible for: + Translating product performance requirements such as treadwear, fuel efficiency, handling, braking, durability, into chemical and physical property requirements of materials, and then developing tire compounds which demonstrate high performance. + Own technical knowledge around Commercial Development (crown and casing). This includes basic knowledge of reinforcement components and functional interaction. + Execute Compound Development projects with cross-functional teams to deliver new technologies and capabilities supporting future Global Product and Technology development needs. + Ensure support for Product Development teams where required to deliver to the global / regional businesses (i.e. material benchmarking, recommendations for compound choices, root cause analysis on compound related items). + Ensure support for tire plants during 1st wave of industrialization to deliver to the global / regional business (i.e. business continuity, plant support request, complexity management) and ensure support to PLO teams. **Principle Duties & Responsibilities** **Technology Development:** + Develop new compound formulations and/or tune existing formulations and support Quality with industrialization along with Product Development roadmap for optimal performance (tire performance/ manufacturing performance) while considering cost and environment. + Follow Global Technology GIR process. Leverage virtual development tools (modeling and (semi)empiric), design and execute/ interpret lab studies. Assist plant trials as required, prepare technical content, and execute technical reviews (RMM/ GMS Friday Tech Forum FTF/ GIR gate& stakeholder reviews). + Interact with GMS related councils (raw material councils, compound councils, processing councils). **Product Development:** + Provide compound/ component recommendations during all PCP development phases. Utilize material science expertise to answer questions from design and business team. + Provide assistance for trouble shooting/ root cause analysis in materials area in liaison with other functions. + Contribute to feasibility studies and DFMEA/PFMEA sessions. + Provide support in GMS related areas during product industrialization and ramp up (phase 4/5). + Drive support on product maintenance/claims in liaison with APM and GMS metrology, GRMDA/GRT and Quality. **Functional:** + Maintain functional guidelines such as GMDM and compound line up (crown and casing) in GTDM, update WIKI pages, share knowledge using KMO best practices, stay up to date on external knowledge (publications, patents, scientific literature), participate in raw material and compounding councils. **Plant Support:** + Leverage compounding and processing expertise to assist plants and product development team during first compound industrialization. This includes material testing, trial execution and documentation and preparation of changes in compound formulations, specifications including execution of release documentation. Serve as partner to PLO/Quality in case of business continuity, plant support request, complexity management. **How:** + Technical proficiency: Develops and advises on technical solutions, possesses a thorough understanding of technology and standards, develops and advises others on evolving technologies. Coach and mentor. + Decision making/ problem solving: Collects inputs for quality decisions, considers alternatives, develops innovative ideas to address large complex problems. + Communication: Demonstrates and instills positive attitude in peers. Plans, leads and effectively manages meetings. Manages / resolves conflict. Provides technical direction. + Project management: uses the project risk management process to manage project risks, develops new methods for and advise others on project conflict resolution. **To join our team, you will need:** **Education & Certifications:** + A Bachelors or master’s in chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Biology is required. + A PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or Biology is desired. **Experience:** + Experience on structure/property relationships in viscoelastic materials is necessary. + Experience in rubber compound analytical data interpretation (physical properties, chemical composition, forensics reports. + Tire plant experience in mixing/component preparation and with tire production processes desired. + Proficiency in the statistical design and analysis of data. **Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:** + Knowledge of polymers, fillers, and/or reinforced composites. + Experience in elastomeric formulations scale-up. + Strong ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. + Exceptional communication and technical documentation. + Open minded, dynamic, and collaborative spirit with a strong sense of urgency. + Ability to travel (10 %) within Europe. + Fluency in English. \#LI-KH1 Goodyear is one of the world's largest tire companies.
