Engineer- Mechanical Powertrain

The Powertrain Engineer – Mechanical supports the design, analysis, and integration of advanced powertrain systems across multiple Oshkosh products. This role offers opportunities to work with engines/transmissions and their related systems, advanced powertrains, and thermal management systems, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop solutions that meet performance, efficiency, and regulatory requirements in new and existing vehicles.

YOUR IMPACT

Assist in the design, development, and validation of powertrain systems (engines, transmissions, advanced drivetrains, and thermal management).

Support system integration activities to ensure compatibility with vehicle platforms.

Conduct analysis on performance, fuel efficiency, emissions, durability, and thermal performance, safety and reliability.

Participate in prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting of powertrain and thermal systems.

Prepare technical reports, test documentation, and presentations for engineering reviews.

Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to evaluate and source new technologies.

Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory standards related to powertrains and thermal management.

Perform basic engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes.

Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.

Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures.

Perform and direct preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.

Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements.

Provide technical assistance for production support.

Utilize analytical and mathematical approaches to calculate or model system performance and optimize designs.

Analyze and resolve issues reported to engineering and communicate status via verbal or written communication.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field along with Internship experience or six (6) or more months of related work experience.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS 

Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle powertrains and related systems.

Understanding of internal combustion engines, transmissions, hybrid/electric powertrain systems, or thermal management systems.

Internship or co-op experience in automotive, heavy vehicle or equipment, or related industries.

Knowledge of engineering fundamentals such as component structure, stress analysis, GD&T, materials fundamentals, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Experience with Creo or CATIA.

Pay Range:

$63,500.00 - $101,700.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
