The overall function of this position for the design of highway construction projects, preparation of construction plans and other documents for highway projects, specifications and assisting in the letter bid process. This position also provides expert technical guidance to other engineers in regards to geometrics, traffic operational requirements and hydraulic design aspects. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: + Prepares construction plans for pavement preservation, contract maintenance, safety and other related projects at the District level which includes the following: design of guard rails systems, analysis and design of drainage structures, determination of work zone signing, pavement markings ad roadway geometrics. + Preparation and processing of proposals and contracts for letter bids in accordance with Department policies and procedures. This includes preparing plans and specifications, assembling bid proposals, distribution of proposals to potential bidders, reviewing bids for compliance with Letter Bid Guidelines, processing request for approval for low bidder and preparation of the project contract. + Prepare cost estimates, preparation of detours, typical sections, loop layouts and plan quantities to be included in a complete plan set.
