The overall function of this position for the design of highway construction projects, preparation of construction plans and other documents for highway projects, specifications and assisting in the letter bid process. This position also provides expert technical guidance to other engineers in regards to geometrics, traffic operational requirements and hydraulic design aspects. This position is located in District 61/Gang 170, East Baton Rouge Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Joshua Stutes, Engineer 8. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. This incumbent may serve as a functional supervisor and mentor to other staff or as a Team Leader in the supervisor’s absence and should serve as the overall office expert at the Engineer 5 level. NOTE: This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: + Prepares construction plans for pavement preservation, contract maintenance, safety and other related projects at the District level which includes the following: design of guard rails systems, analysis and design of drainage structures, determination of work zone signing, pavement markings ad roadway geometrics. + Preparation and processing of proposals and contracts for letter bids in accordance with Department policies and procedures. This includes preparing plans and specifications, assembling bid proposals, distribution of proposals to potential bidders, reviewing bids for compliance with Letter Bid Guidelines, processing request for approval for low bidder and preparation of the project contract. + Prepare cost estimates, preparation of detours, typical sections, loop layouts and plan quantities to be included in a complete plan set. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience. Engineer 3 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly.
