Engineer III
ENGINEER TAILINGS MANAGEMENT FACILITIES: 
Reporting to Sr. Director Environmental, this position has direct leadership responsibility for managing governance and compliance of Minntac and Keetac Tailings Management Facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensuring that U.S. Steel standards are met or exceeded
• Establishing and adhering to governance goals, targets, and deadlines
• Report and communicate key information to Responsible Executive and Corporate Strategy Team. • Coordinate permitting and operating activities with Environmental and Engineering teams including the need for future permitting.
• Act as the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE)
• Develop and implement the Tailings Management System (TMS)
• Manage one direct report
• Establish, with input from appropriate personnel, a budget for approval for the management of the tailings facilities
• Establish a formal relationship with the Engineer of Record and the Design Team to ensure that construction and operation meet the design intent and are compliant with legal requirements
• Ensure surveillance is undertaken in accordance with design intent, performance objectives and the risk management plan
• Ensure the development of the tailings facility closure plan, implementation of progressive reclamation as practicable
• Maintain records related to design, construction and operations of the tailings facilities
• Ensure internal inspections (eg dam safety inspections or DSRs) are completed and accompany regulatory inspectors.
• Ensure that emergency response plans are maintained, and tested, either as stand-alone plans or as components of sitewide emergency response plans directly related to tailings management
• Implement measures to remedy variances from performance objectives or criteria
• Implement the program for reviewing tailings safety, including Independent Review • Identify when/where contemplated operational changes are a potential deviation from the design intent and engage the EOR or Design Team as part of the process to manage change
• Participate in or provide input to community, legislative and governmental engagement activities related to tailings management

REQUIREMENTS:
• This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, formal education and training in Engineering, Technology or a related field and a minimum of 10 years work experience in directly related mining field
• This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.
• The salary range of $101,420 to $152,130 is a good faith estimate and based on the candidate's skills/experience, the final offer may be lower/higher
