What you will be doing:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Engine Environmental Protection R&T Manager to join our team in Derby.
The R&T management role sits within the Engine Environmental Protection (EEP) team, which forms part of the Systems Engineering and Product Performance organisation (SEPP).
The role is heavily focussed on the programme management of research and technology / capability work packages owned by EEP. The complex nature of the EEP capability provides the additional opportunity for the successful applicant to learn on one or a number of EEP subject areas and therefore offers applicants simultaneous development in both technical and programme management areas.
The technical role encompasses a wide range of activites ranging from development of product design models from engineering first principles, 1D thermodynamic simulation, empirical modelling, detailed 3D CFD assessment, understanding of certification requirements, business risk assessments and physical testing. In addition the role encourages integration skills to allow R&T requirements, data and product understanding to be gathered and disseminated across various stake holders.
Responsibilities:
- To provide leadership to the initiation/launching, efficient planning, and monitoring of R&T activities in EEP.
- To ensure adherence to all Rolls-Royce's standards applicable to this activity.
- To create and maintain plans to meet the overall R&T delivery commitments.
- To monitor progress and ensure that all resource needed to execute the plan is included, and shortfalls in available resource are raised with the Capability lead, to ensure that sufficient resource is available through subcontract and recruitment.
- To ensure clear definition and timely reviewing of programme milestones and deliverables.
- To own the programmatic relationship between engineering and the external R&T partners and ensure planning, progress and monitoring is effectively managed and integrated.
- To be the focal point for communication on R&T programme matters, within and on behalf of EEP.
- To apply Health, Safety and the Environment policy including a commitment to continuous improvement.
Who we’re looking for:
- SG10 experience
- Bachelor's degree or Master's in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience
- Basic technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition
- An ability to apply structured, logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters
- Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and certification frameworks
- Good communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation
