Job Purpose and Impact

The Market Risk Analyst will identify, assess, and mitigate risk. In this role, you will establish risk management procedures and processes to ensure adherence to policies and you will contribute to determining potential loss due to market movements.

Key AccountabilitiesMonitor and analyze market risk exposures using metrics such as Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Stress testingProduce daily risk reporting and P&L analysis for energy trading desks (power, gas, emissions, etc.)Collaborate with traders, middle office, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate risk representationAssist in the development and automation of risk tools, dashboards, and controlsContribute to the continuous improvement of data quality and risk processesCommunicate market risk insights and analytics clearly across the organizationParticipate in the implementation of cost-effective risk mitigation strategiesSolve moderately complex issues independently and escalate more complex matters as neededQualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)Minimum of 2 years of experience in the energy or financial services industryStrong Excel skills and programming experience in SQL and/or Python

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to any energy markets (Power, Gas, Oil – Carbon a plus)Experience with data handling, model building, and ideally risk modelingFamiliarity with visualization tools such as Power BI or TableauBasic understanding of financial instruments and market dynamics

Key Technical Skills:

Strong analytical and data management skillsUnderstanding of market risk concepts and risk metricsAbility to work with large datasets and automate reporting processes

Excellent communication skills – able to translate complex data into actionable insightsStrong interpersonal skills – able to build trust and collaborate with traders and cross-functional teamsProactive, curious, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environmentTeam-oriented with a problem-solving mindset
