**Endoscopy Technician**
**Location: Baystate Franklin Medical Center – Greenfield, MA**
**Schedule: Monday–Friday, variable start times between 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM (8-hour shifts)**

**Position Summary:**
The Endoscopy Technician plays a key role in supporting diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology procedures under the direct, on-site supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician. This position involves both direct and indirect patient care activities and requires a strong understanding of technical and clinical procedures within the endoscopy setting.
The Endoscopy Tech ensures a clean, safe, and well-equipped environment, assists in patient preparation and recovery, and supports the healthcare team throughout procedures. The role adheres to Baystate Health’s standards and regulatory requirements and contributes to a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Assist in data collection and assessment, including obtaining vital signs.
+ Prepare patients for procedures (e.g., flexible sigmoidoscopy), including administering enemas as directed.
+ Support physicians and nurses during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
+ Perform documentation tasks using hospital systems (e.g., CIS), and assist with patient communications and charge processing.
+ Clean and disinfect endoscopes, rooms, and equipment; manage room turnover and maintain supply levels.
+ Process specimens in accordance with established procedures.
+ Respond appropriately to emergencies as directed by clinical staff.
+ Maintain a safe environment in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.
+ Participate in continuing education and demonstrate competency in gastroenterology/endoscopy practices.
+ Support performance improvement initiatives and take on additional duties or special projects as assigned by the Unit Manager.
**Qualifications:**
**Required Experience:**
+ None required; on-the-job training provided
**Preferred Experience:**
+ 6 months to 1 year of experience in a hospital or clinical setting
**Skills & Competencies:**
+ Ability to follow detailed instructions and prioritize multiple tasks
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills
+ Completion of hospital orientation and competency program
+ Basic competency in reading and mathematics (aptitude testing required)
+ Moderate physical strength; good hand-eye coordination
+ Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively in emergencies
+ Visual and auditory acuity (with or without correction)
+ Committed to ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice
