Performs a variety of routine technical and patient care duties under the direction of physicians and nurses. Responsible for the cleaning and reprocessing of a variety of endoscopes and accessories. Maintains and stocks instruments and supplies.
Major Responsibilities:
Prepares procedure rooms for endoscopic procedures. Assists with patient transfer to and from procedure rooms, prepares vital sign monitoring systems, and position patient appropriate to procedure. Assists health care team with patient care, ensuring proper airway protection via oral suctioning during upper endoscopic procedures.Assembles necessary equipment specific to procedure, to include scopes and instruments used for therapeutic and diagnostic treatments. Troubleshoots and ensure proper working order of computer and equipment.Assists patients, physicians, and health care staff with endoscopic procedures as assigned. Utilizes specimen retrieval instruments and other devices to assist with procedures. Collects, records and labels tissue samples and other specimens.Assists physicians with hemostatic instruments including but not limited to clips, electrocautery devices, bicaping, argon plasma coagulation and variceal ligation and banding.Maintains, cleans and disinfects endoscopes and accessories utilizing an automated scope washing system. Changes high-level disinfection solutions, filters, log paper, and printing ribbons as needed. Records scope washing, broken equipment, and high- level disinfectant changes according to policy and procedure.Maintains equipment and supplies, cleaning of procedure rooms, and patient care equipment and areas in accordance with policy and procedures. Restock and properly maintain procedure rooms, travel carts, and travel equipment supply boxes.Retrieves and restocks linens, patient nutrition supplies, and general order supplies. Rotate stock in supply room and procedure rooms as necessary. Assures accurate inventory of supplies based on approved levels. Initiate requisition for supply re-stocking and special-order items.The duties and responsibilities stated are a general summary and not all inclusive.

Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training.Experience/Skills:

Three to twelve months’ experience.Knowledge of patient care, endoscopy procedures and basic GI anatomy.Must be flexible with scheduling needs.Must be able to work independently and work well in teams.Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion and communication skills.Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Preferred:
