Emergency Response Manager

Job Description

As the Emergency Response Manager, you will lead the strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of GM’s global emergency response and workplace violence preparedness programs. You will play a critical role in shaping long-term strategy, driving cross-functional initiatives, and ensuring operational excellence across all GM sites. This role requires strong leadership, policy development, and stakeholder engagement to help ensure GM sites are prepared to respond effectively to threats and emergencies.

What You'll Do

Develop and drive the long-term strategy for GM’s emergency response program, aligned with Global Security and enterprise-wide goals.Provide strategic direction and oversight for emergency response initiatives across global sites.Establish and implement global standards, tools, and procedures to ensure program consistency, effectiveness, and continuous improvement.Lead cross-functional development and maintenance of GM’s workplace violence preparedness program.Oversee the planning and execution of full-scale, functional, and tabletop emergency response exercises to validate preparedness and coordination.Lead the design and delivery of training programs that support emergency response and workplace violence preparedness initiatives across global sites.Ensure consistent deployment and utilization of emergency response systems and tools across global sites.Benchmark with external organizations to identify and integrate best practices into GM’s emergency response framework.Partner with key internal stakeholders (e.g., Site Security, Facilities, IT, Workplace Safety, Manufacturing, Risk Management) to drive cross-functional alignment and impact.Provide coaching and mentorship to team members and extended stakeholders to support development and engagement.Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across all emergency response functions.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or collegeA minimum of ten years’ experience in physical security (preferably within GM, automotive or manufacturing company)Five years of progressively responsible experience designing and leading security programs or cross-functional initiativesStrong strategic thinking, planning, and organizational skillsExcellent communication and presentation abilitiesDemonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence at all levelsAbility to build trust and rapport and to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.Strong knowledge and/or proven experience in the following areas:Emergency/security operations and planningFire and emergency alarm systemsBuilding relationships and liaising with local emergency servicesConducting emergency drills and tabletop exercises Developing and writing policies, standards, and procedures&#xa;&#xa;&#xa;&#xa;This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.&#xa;&#xa;The selected candidate will be required to travel <25% for this role.&#xa;&#xa;This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.&#xa;&#xa;
