The following are specific guidelines for the functioning and responsibilities of Emergency Department Care Assistants assigned to the Department of Emergency Medicine,

Prefer relevant experience in an inpatient health care setting.

**Compensation Statement**
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $25.2848 - $27.4661 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

**Responsibilities**
**Supplies and Equipment Management**
+ Monitors and maintains equipment in the Emergency Department; works with supervisor, ED staff and outside departments (e.g., Biomedical Engineering and Engineering) to ensure equipment remains in good working order.
+ Inspects broken equipment for repaired/replacement.
+ Order additional accessories for equipment and replaces accessories as needed.
+ Ensures all procedure rooms have basic equipment i.e. (Mayo Stand, monitor cables)
+ Monitors supplies to ensure appropriate inventory levels (at the direction of the supervisor), including:
1. Identification of supply needs; communication of supply needs to supervisor.
2. Ensuring proper stocking, storage and distribution of supplies to end users (across all Emergency Department supply areas)
3. Supply room maintenance and clean up (all Emergency Department supply areas)
4. Conducting regular physical inventory of supplies/equipment, checking for expired supplies/equipment, removal of expired product from the unit and rotation of stock (oldest to newest) to eliminate waste
+ Retrieves supplies as needed from Stat stores, Central Sterile, loading dock, mail room, etc., at the direction of the ED Inventory & Equipment Supervisor and ED Operations Managers.
+ Performs supply cart stocking, management and turnover.
+ Performs regular supply cart cleaning/maintenance; cleans/maintain common space mobile equipment
+ Maintains proper oxygen cylinder storage in the department
+ Runs regular and unscheduled errands, in accordance with department needs, including the pickup and delivery of equipment to and from Biomedical Engineering and the loading dock, at the direction of the Materials and Equipment Supervisor and ED Operations Manager.
+ Keeps work area neat and clean; maintains cleanliness of supply storage areas and equipment
+ Pre-clean used sterile equipment as per Infection Control guidelines and transports equipment to sterile processing for cleaning; logs ticket for pickup.
+ Delivers cleaned equipment form sterile processing and distributes processed instrument sets, equipment and supplies in appropriate work and storage area.
+ Maintain warmer cabinets.
1. Replenish and arrange neatly blankets and sheets.
2. Clean warmer cabinet once weekly.
+ Safeguards MSH property, equipment and supplies from damage and theft.
**Transportation and Management of Transport Equipment**
+ Transport the emergency department patient to and from radiology and other testing areas.
+ Transport patient to inpatient unit and observation unit. Assist in moving, positioning, and patient safety as needed.
+ Assures availability of all equipment appropriate for transport of patient.
+ Clean stretcher and wheelchair with appropriate solution and change linen after transporting each patient.
+ Keep all stretcher equipment complete and in good working order, report need for repair.
+ Provide the appropriate transport equipment (stretcher/wheelchair/ bariatric bed) according to the patient needs as directed by the emergency department team.
+ Returns empty stretchers and equipment to the Emergency Department after patient is transferred to their destination.
**Care of Emergency Department Treatment Bays and Rooms**
+ Replenish and arrange neatly procedure room supplies, gloves, and cleaning wipes.
+ Maintain cleanliness of shelves, work counters and supply carts.
**Care of Soiled Utility Rooms:**
+ Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of shelves, drawers, counters, etc.
+ Check and replenish stock levels of specimen containers, POCT supplies, disinfecting solutions.
**Patient Care**
+ Utilizes correct body mechanics in transport and moving of patients.
+ Communicates with patients and family members with a respectful and caring manner.
**Transportation of Blood, and Other Errands Outside the Emergency Department**
+ Transport blood specimens and other stat specimens to the appropriate laboratory or send VIA Pneumatic system as directed by the emergency medicine team member.
+ Take specimens to Pathology Department, stamp the pathology form and notify the pathologist the specimen is there.
**STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS**
+ Participates in the orientation program of new employee peers.
+ Communicates appropriately with the patient care team.
+ Participates in the departments performance improvement activities
+ Utilizes proper channels of communication within the organization.
+ Covers peers as assigned.
+ Maintains close availability to area.
+ Reports to Emergency Department Operations Manager/designee at the beginning of scheduled shift and at the end of shift.
+ Takes accountability for time management.
+ Utilizes and maintains communication devices required for role.
+ Performs responsibilities that demonstrate excellence in customer service.
+ Contributes to a team working environment.
+ Meets regulatory and annual health assessment requirements.
+ Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others.
