Position Summary 

Reporting to the Embedded Hardware Manager, the Embedded Hardware Designer is responsible for developing technologies for Environmental Solutions that advance innovations in the water treatment process. This role involves hands-on lab work, cross-functional collaboration, and contributing technical expertise in embedded controls. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and validating electronic hardware and systems that support our mission to safeguard vital water resources. 

This position is part of the Embedded Hardware team located in London, ON and will be hybrid.  

In this role, a typical day will look like: 

Participate in the design, development, and analysis of electronic hardware and systems. 

Recommend design approaches and ensure compliance with certifications (UL, CSA, CE). 

Work cross-functionally with internal teams, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to support prototype and production builds. 

Assist in developing requirements, specifications, and test plans. 

Perform hands-on lab work using tools such as logic analyzers, power supplies, and oscilloscopes. 

Participate in field testing and validation of hardware systems. 

Create and maintain schematics, BOMs, and engineering specifications. 

Support engineering change processes and manage design lifecycle to minimize obsolescence. 

Contribute technical input on embedded controls and provide feedback for new projects as a Voice of Customer (VoC). 

Diagnose issues and recommend improvements for existing systems. 

 

The essential requirements of the job include: 

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. 

2+ years of experience in embedded hardware design, including PCB design and schematic capture (OrCAD, Altium, or Cadence). 

Hands-on experience with lab tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, power supplies) and ability to perform hardware testing, debugging, and troubleshooting. 

 

Preferred qualifications: 

Analog and digital circuit design, microcontrollers, and communication interfaces (RS-485, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, etc.). 

Experience working cross-functionally with suppliers and contract manufacturers. 

Familiarity with BOM creation and management, engineering change processes, and specification documentation. 

Exposure to embedded firmware experience for hardware validation (C/C++, RTOS basics). 

Knowledge of compliance standards (UL, CSA, CE) and design for manufacturability/testability. 

Familiarity with EMC/EMI considerations and regulatory testing. 

Exposure to field testing and validation in real-world environments. 

Understanding of lifecycle management and obsolescence planning.
