Responsibilities

Comply with Barrick’s established health and safety policies, procedures, practices and Occupational Health and Safety Acts.

Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.

Actively ensure a safe environment for yourself, your peers and local communities through regular communication and due diligence.

Promptly report and correct unsafe acts and conditions.

Actively ensure that fatal risks are understood and critical controls are maintained.

The principal duties and responsibilities of the Electrical Trainer are to train the national workforce in line with the Barrick Electrical safety standards.

Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. 

Advise section heads on whether continued operation of the equipment could be hazardous. 

Help design, wire or re-wire electrical circuits to improve the reliability of the electrical equipment in line with Barrick Electrical Safety standards and Country legislation.

Help plan for periodical unit checks to prevent premature failure of the equipment. 

Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. 

Direct and train workers to elaborate the best electrical system maintenance strategy along with stock management.

Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering: 

High Voltage Switching

Basic Instrumentation

Mine Arc (Refuge Chamber) training

Experience and Skills Requirements

A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience and exposure working in an underground mining environment.

Preference will be given for experience in HV or LV switchgear protections, underground mechanised mining, conveyor systems, pump stations, compressors, transformers, motors, soft starters, variable speed drives, and HV or LV cable jointing.

Generators or power systems, previous experience with control systems and instrumentation.

Excellent knowledge of high or low voltage systems and switchgears complete with protections. 

Excellent knowledge of standby generators or power systems.

RAW fan and secondary fans installation, inspections and maintenance.

Exceptional skills in field Electrical maintenance, faultfinding and troubleshooting. 

Must be capable of drafting and reading electrical drawings. 

Strong safety background and ability to drive a safe working environment and practices.

Excellent communication skills in English and French, both written and verbal.

Computer skills – MS Excel, Access, Word, Outlook.
