JOB DESCRIPTION - ELECTRICAL SUPERVISOR

Position Title: Electrical Supervisor

Department: Engineering Services

Reports to: Engineering Manager / Assistant Engineering Manager

Location: Primary Manufacturing Site (Colombo Operations)

Employment Type: Full-time contractor personnel

POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrical Supervisor will oversee and manage all electrical systems, maintenance activities, and safety protocols across the company's manufacturing operations. This role requires ensuring 100% availability of electrical systems, managing a team of electrical technicians, and maintaining compliance with all safety and regulatory standards while supporting continuous production operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

Supervise and manage all electrical distribution systems, power panels, and auxiliary support services

Ensure 24/7 availability of electrical systems across PMD, SMD, Admin areas, and support facilities

Oversee operation and maintenance of 2 HT transformers (1500 KVA, 1000 KVA)

Manage 5 generators (4 x 800 KVA with synchronization, 1 x 100 KVA standby)

Supervise capacitor banks (2500 KVAr, 1600 KVAr) and 6000 A LT distribution panels

2. MAINTENANCE SUPERVISION

Lead weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance activities according to established schedules

Supervise daily inspections of generators, electrical panels, and distribution systems

Coordinate annual substation maintenance with chartered electrical engineers

Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for all maintenance activities

Manage preventive maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime

3. SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Ensure 100% compliance with electrical safety standards and company EH&S policies

Supervise monthly RCD testing, portable tool inspections, and safety equipment checks

Maintain earthing systems (76 earth pits) and lightning protection systems

Conduct quarterly portable tool testing and bi-annual fan safety inspections

Ensure all electrical work follows proper permit procedures and safety protocols

4. TEAM LEADERSHIP

Supervise electrical technicians and coordinate work assignments

Provide technical guidance and training to team members

Conduct daily direction setting meetings and performance reviews

Manage shift coverage for 24-hour operations

Coordinate with other departments and external contractors

5. EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Lead electrical breakdown response within 15-minute target

Manage generator operations during power failures (5-minute changeover target)

Coordinate with utility providers for power restoration activities

Ensure emergency lighting and fire detection systems are operational

6. REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION

Maintain accurate daily logs for all electrical systems

Report maximum demand readings and power factor management

Prepare monthly electrical consumption reports

Document all maintenance activities and system performance

Provide technical reports to engineering management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Certifications:

Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification

German Training Institute/ATI certification preferred

Valid electrical supervisor license

Safety training certifications (confined space, working at height)

Experience:

Minimum 5 years experience in industrial electrical systems

3+ years supervisory experience in manufacturing environment

Experience with HT/LT systems, generators, and power distribution

Background in food processing or FMCG industries preferred

Technical Skills:

Proficient in electrical system troubleshooting and maintenance

Knowledge of power quality management and energy efficiency

Familiarity with PLCs, motor control systems, and instrumentation

Understanding of electrical safety standards and regulations

Computer literacy for maintenance management systems

WORKING CONDITIONS

Hours: 24/7 coverage with shift rotations and on-call responsibilities

Environment: Industrial manufacturing facility with exposure to electrical hazards

Physical Requirements: Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift equipment

Travel: Occasional visits to secondary site as required

PERFORMANCE METRICS

100% electrical system availability during production hours

Zero electrical safety incidents

Maximum demand maintained within contracted limits (≤1400 KVA)

Power factor maintained at ≥0.99

All maintenance schedules completed on time

Emergency response within 15-minute target

Monthly performance rating ≥75% as per KPI evaluation

REPORTING STRUCTURE

Direct Reports: Electrical Technicians, AC Technicians

Key Interfaces: Engineering Manager, Production Managers, Maintenance Teams, External Contractors

This position is critical to maintaining continuous production operations and requires a highly skilled professional committed to excellence in electrical systems management and team leadership.
