Project Assessor – Electrical (Building Assessments & Inspections)   About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Project Assessor to perform in-depth evaluations of electrical infrastructure in commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities. This role is dedicated to electrical building assessments, safety inspections, and compliance verification in alignment with NEC, NFPA 70B/70E, OSHA, and client-specific standards.

As the on-site technical expert, you will assess the condition, code compliance, and reliability of electrical systems ranging from service entrances and switchgear to backup generators, UPS systems, and distribution equipment. You’ll document findings, identify risks, and deliver actionable recommendations to enhance system reliability, safety, and long-term performance. Travel to client project sites nationwide is required.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical System Inspections & Assessments

Perform hands-on inspections of medium- and low-voltage distribution systems including switchgear, feeders, panelboards, transformers, MCCs, ATS, UPS, and standby generators.

Conduct operational checks and functional testing of protective devices (relays, breakers, fuses) to verify proper performance.

Evaluate grounding and bonding systems for compliance with NEC requirements.

Inspect and document conditions of cabling, conduit, raceways, terminations, labeling, and protective covers.

Review and interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, and as-built drawings to verify field accuracy and identify deficiencies.

Safety, Compliance & Standards

Verify adherence to NEC, NFPA 70B/70E, OSHA, and client-specific safety standards.

Assess arc flash hazard labeling, PPE usage, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical safety programs on-site.

Identify code violations, obsolete equipment, and unsafe conditions that may affect personnel or operational reliability.

Document compliance gaps and provide recommendations for remediation or upgrades.

Preventive Maintenance & Reliability Assessments

Perform visual inspections and infrared thermography (where applicable) to identify hot spots, loose connections, or load imbalances.

Conduct operational checks on UPS systems and battery banks, including review of maintenance logs and runtime conditions.

Evaluate generator systems, automatic transfer switches, and load testing procedures for emergency power reliability.

Review maintenance practices against NFPA 70B recommended guidelines to determine adequacy of preventive maintenance programs.

Client Communication & Reporting

Engage with property owners, facility managers, and municipal officials to collect background and operational data.

Provide cost estimates and replacement reserve projections for deficient or end-of-life equipment.

Deliver clear, detailed written reports with photographic documentation, highlighting deficiencies, code issues, risks, and recommended corrective actions.

Serve as a technical advisor to clients, explaining complex electrical findings in accessible, actionable terms.

  Qualifications

Licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician strongly preferred; equivalent experience in electrical inspection, facilities assessment, or critical infrastructure maintenance considered.

5+ years hands-on experience in commercial/industrial electrical systems installation, testing, or maintenance.

Expertise in inspecting and maintaining switchgear, UPS systems, standby/emergency generators, ATS, MCCs, and protective devices.

Strong knowledge of NFPA, NEC, OSHA, IEEE and electrical safety compliance standards.

Skilled at interpreting one-lines, construction drawings, and technical schematics.

Familiarity with mission-critical environments (data centers, hospitals, utilities, large industrial facilities) is highly desirable.

Strong technical writing skills and ability to produce professional inspection reports.

Proficient with electronic tablets for field data collection and Microsoft Office Suite for reporting.

Valid driver’s license; willingness to travel nationwide to client sites.
