Job DescriptionAECOM has a position available for a Renewables/Distributed Generation Engineering Specialist as part of our multi-disciplinary energy and engineering team in Western Canada.
Job Summary:
Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, overhead and underground transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), renewable generation (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), power distribution (overhead and underground power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.).
We are looking for an up-and-coming leader with a renewables/distributed generation design and power engineering background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in solar engineering coupled with experience supervising teams and leading tasks on projects. The successful candidate is expected to be a detail oriented, experienced engineer who can make decisions independently under the guidance of senior staff.
The focus of the experience must be in the power industry associated with solar engineering and design and their interconnection and distribution systems. Experience with battery energy storage and/or wind power is a plus.

Major Responsibilities:
The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Supervising a team of engineers in the completion of utility scale solar projects as well as solar microgrid solutionsWorking with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activitiesSupporting company business development activities as it relates to renewable energy projectsProviding input to management on project resourcing and staff forecasting needs Monitoring your teams project progress to ensure quality, on-time and on-budget delivery of projects Solar PV system design including array layouts, DC string sizing, equipment layouts, and utility interconnections for rooftop, carport, and ground mount (fixed tilt and single-axis tracking) systemsSolar PV system energy production modellingDeveloping solar construction and equipment specificationsEngineering calculations (NEC maximum system voltage, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnect requirements, voltage drop, and conduit sizing)Support drawing production - Solar PV systemOne line and three-line diagrams, Cable and Conduit Schedules Bill of Materials PV system cost estimation and payback evaluations DC and low to medium voltage power distribution designSupporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioningParticipating in and presenting engineering work at client meetingsServes as lead solar engineer and Engineer of Record on mid- to large size solar PV projectsProvides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise, technical expertise for studies and design efforts, and presents complex technical solutions to clientsPerforms quality control reviews of work developed by othersParticipates in development of technical proposalsProvides estimates for the engineering budget and scheduleReviews, checks and signs off work prepared by teamEnsure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design workQualifications
Minimum Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must meet the below requirement, at a very minimum:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant field of study + 4 (four) years of relevant experience including in the electrical design of commercial and utility-scale solar PV systems.Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Current professional engineering license.Ten (10) years of engineering experience preferredHighly Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, PVsyst, and Microsoft Excel desiredExperience with other software in the industry such as NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, and Helioscope Battery Energy Store System and/or other renewables experienceMV AC Collection System Design ExperienceProficient with the NEC, as well as related codes such as IBC and NFPA 855Strong Familiarity with utility practices, industry codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP etc.).Experience with efficient building design, including municipal infrastructureExperience working with utilities in Western CanadaInterest in developing talented technical teamsAble to lead engineering tasks with strong communication skills (written and verbal)Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.Additional InformationRelocation is not available for this position.Sponsorship is not available for this position.About AECOM
