Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Position Overview:
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing the electrical and controls design aspects of expansion and maintenance capital projects. These projects are executed by third-party engineering firms and must comply with Company standards, industry regulations, and project-specific budgets and schedules. The role requires close coordination with Project Execution, Operations, and Shared Services to ensure all project and company requirements are met and properly integrated into design deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design & Technical Expertise:

Lead the design of large horsepower (10,000 to 30,000 HP) turbine and electric motor-driven centrifugal compressor stations.

Ensure all electrical systems meet NEC standards for industrial systems and hazardous classified areas.

Provide subject matter expertise across the following areas:

1. Power Systems:

120/208V systems: lighting panels, fixtures, convenience outlets.

480V systems: MCCs/motor starters, motors, power panels, transformers, auto transfer switches, generators.

4160V systems: switchgear, motor starters, synchronous motors, circuit breakers, relays, and metering.

Cable/conduit sizing, starter and overload sizing, grounding systems, and cathodic protection.

2. Control Systems:

PLC-based systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley) and Wonderware operator interfaces.

Motor control circuits, electric and pneumatic valve actuators.

PID loop controllers and Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD).

3. Instrumentation:

Smart and analog transmitters (e.g., Rosemount, Honeywell).

Pneumatic gauges, pressure/differential pressure/temperature transmitters.

Level gauges, RTDs, thermocouples, thermowells.

Flame and gas detection systems.

Project Execution:

Oversee project scope development, scheduling, cost estimating, and risk management for assigned facility projects.

Ensure facilities are designed in compliance with all applicable regulations, codes, and corporate standards.

Manage and monitor third-party engineering firms to ensure design deliverables align with budget and schedule.

Review and approve design documents including drawings, technical reports, and material lists.

Evaluate vendor quotations, conduct technical assessments, and make recommendations based on technical merit, pricing, and delivery timelines.

Construction & Commissioning Support:

Provide technical guidance during construction and commissioning phases.

Review lessons learned from past projects and integrate improvements into future designs.

Mentor junior engineers and support department initiatives as needed.

Ensure project scope meets all regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.
Scope & Impact
Responsible for delivering technically sound, cost-effective, and schedule-compliant designs that have a significant impact on corporate financial performance.

Coordinate efficiently with internal teams and external partners.

Provide informal leadership and technical mentorship to peers.
Key Relationships
Project Manager: Weekly updates on project progress, cost, schedule, and risks.

Engineering Supervisor/Manager: Frequent updates and technical alignment.

External Engineering Firms: Daily oversight on design execution.

Operations Teams: Regular engagement to ensure alignment with operational requirements.
Qualifications
Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in engineering and project management.

Preferred:

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.

Proven ability to lead, innovate, and manage multiple projects.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Strong awareness of stakeholder interdependencies and project lifecycle.
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with frequent design and project coordination responsibilities.

High-pressure, deadline-driven environment with simultaneous project demands.

Occasional field visits requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and overnight travel.
