Location Information:This role is based at our Burlington, Ontario facility, supporting our Lab Automation group, an ISO 9001 certified organization. Our team designs, manufactures, and installs robotic solutions globally, accelerating drug discovery, synthetic biology research, and clinical testing for major pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers. How you will make an impact:
As an Electrical Designer, you will play an important role as part of a project team providing engineered electrical solutions to ensure performance and safety of engineered-to-order (ETO) automated laboratory projects.
What you will contribute:
Team CollaborationCollaborate with multi-functional project teams that include the customer, Project Managers, Integrators, Mechanical Designers, Material Planning, Procurement, to plan and develop an ETO solution to achieve the agreed requirementsPromote a multi-functional team environment through design reviews at key stages of the projectsSupport the pre-sales team as a technical consultant to support customer bids on new businessWork with vendors to review designs for manufacturability and select components for the system solution providing alternates due to obsolescence or supply chain constraints.Support root cause investigations and resolution with internal team members and vendorsTechnical & SafetyPerform power distribution calculations to specify the electrical and other applicable utility requirements for the customer to operate the automated system properly and safelyCreate electrical schematics drawings for the system’s communications, power distribution and safety circuitry using AutoCADPerform and detail Safety Risk Assessments on the system design for compliance with locally legislated requirements such as OSHA, CSA, CE, UKCA, UL, IEC or customer specificPrepare Bills of Materials (BOM) pertaining to electrical assemblies for order release in the ERP system Continuous ImprovementHelp to improve design efficiency and consistency from project to project by maintaining the central design library for commonly used components and assembliesEnsure design issues and/or problems are resolved effectively and accurately vetted by the multi-functional project teamInvestigate, propose, and implement design improvements to enhance our product quality, value to our customers, or improve our profitabilityHow will you get here?
EducationBachelor’s degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering or equivalentProfessional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng) license considered an assetExperience5+ years’ experience in an electrical design or engineering roleExperience with robotics and/or automated systems considered an assetAble to perform power distribution calculations and heat generation analysisCMSE or experience in Machinery Safety considered an assetExperience with maintaining part items in an ERP systemExperience with industrial network infrastructureExperience in a customer-facing roleKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesProficiency with the latest version of AutoCADKnowledge of domestic and international electrical codesStrong interpersonal skills, both verbal and writtenAble to work independently with minimal direction to meet project objectivesDetailed oriented with strong organizational and analytical skillsExcellent time management skills, able to manage competing prioritiesOther Requirements:
