Job DescriptionAs a part of our continued growth, our Kitchener/London office has an outstanding opportunity for an Electrical Technologist. You will work in a team environment with intermediate and senior engineers to deliver advanced building, transportation, water & wastewater treatment and large pumping station projects to our client.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Provide design, production and documentation developments for electrical power and distribution systems, lighting and system controls and building low voltage systems
Design and produce drawings and specifications for instrumentation and control devices for various processes including water/wastewater treatment, traffic, and industrial applications
Activities may include assisting with engineering calculations, cable sizing, underground infrastructure design, lighting simulations and calculations, specifications and general project documentation
Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports using REVIT and/or AutoCAD software
Strictly adhere to AECOM's project CADD standards, including capability of learning and adopting clients' standard and requirements upon request
Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical aspect on project documentation produced in accordance with AECOM QA/QC procedures and the clients' standards
Collaborate with engineers and other technologists to implement design modifications and improvements
Ensure that project deliverables are produced in a timely manner to expected quality and allocated budget
Monitors and documents conformance with quality, performance, safety, and code requirements
Support engineers to conduct site visits, coordination, inspections, and engineering assessments
Efficiently and effectively handle multiple tasks independently
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field
Minimum 4 years of electrical design experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment for commercial and /or industrial design using AUTODESK packages (AutoCAD, REVIT, Electrical CADD).
Holding or the ability to obtain Reliability Level security clearance
Experience in the preliminary and detailed design phases of light industrial and /or municipal infrastructure (pump stations, water / wastewater treatment plants)
Proven track record in design and production of engineering documents such as P&IDs, single line diagrams, control and communication system diagrams, electrical and instrument location drawings, loop & schematic wiring diagrams; developing equipment load schedules, cable & tray calculations, and instrumentation lists
Proven proficiency in developing construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD.
Advanced AutoCAD or AutoCAD 3D skills required
Must be able to interpret engineers' notes & specifications, and convert into detailed design drawings accurately in timely manner with minimum amount of supervision
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Critical thinking to identify issues, present solutions and follow through to ensure completion
Capable of collaborating and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Must have a valid Ontario G Driver’s License and willingness to travel to job sites as needed
Preferred Qualifications :
Certification or eligibility for certification with OACETT (Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Ontario) is preferred
6+ years’ experience in an electrical technologist role
Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance
Experience designing low and medium voltage distribution, standby generation, transformers, MCC and starters
Proficiency with Revit preferred
Experience in design of Instrumentation and Controls (PLC or DCS) will be considered
Knowledge of the CAN/ULC Standards related to Fire Alarm design, installation, and verification
Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint
Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Codes and standards (e.g., CEC, NEC), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), and experience in 120/208VAC, 600VAC, low voltage and communication systems
