EKG Technician/Muse Associate
Job Summary Performs diagnostic cardiology procedures including applying inpatient telemetry transmitters, electrocardiograms, Holter and 30-day event monitors, signal averaged EKGs. Places procedure results in appropriate areas, MUSE, EMR, logs, etc. Informs appropriate personnel of any life-threatening situations. Accurately completes requisitions and submits charges to medical center information system for each procedure. Updates and maintains Electronic EKG management system records and filed patient charts. Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently. Maintains and adjusts schedule to enhance team performance. Performs related duties such as transporting patients to and from the department, satisfying telephone inquiries or routing to appropriate staff. Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. Maintains the EKG Muse system along with the IS and Biomed in operational order. Provides training to all users for EKG Muse all components of operations, physician reading, editing and retrieving. Provides training for EKG carts to all new users in hospital. Edits EKGs. Provides new user training for editing. Serves as expert resource for MUSE for hospital departments and physicians. Qualifications + Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. High School or GED Required High School graduate or equivalent, required. + Experience: One year of History of healthcare related job experience, preferred. + Additional Skills Required: + Medical terminology and CPR-basic. + Ability to operate electronic and computer-based equipment. + Ability to recognize technical inferior EKG and take corrective action as appropriate. + Excellent customer service and communication skills. + Demonstrate thorough knowledge of cardiac monitor interpretation, skills, and abilities. + Must practice appropriate communication skills and sensitivity to patient's needs. + Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age, principles of growth and development over the life span and to accommodate cultural diversity among the patients being served. + Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status, to identify each patient’s population specific or behavioral needs and provide the care as needed. + Able to effectively teach others on the performance of 12-lead EKGs and the MUSE software system.
