EHS Engineer

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.      Minimum 6 months of environmental, health (industrial hygiene) or safety experience 

 

This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental. One or more years of experience in the field of Environmental, health and safety. Industrial manufacturing and environmental experience preferred. Knowledge of applicable Federal and State related regulations. Knowledge of Health and Safety Programs (i.e., Powered Industrial Trucks, LOTO, Fall Protection) Demonstrated professional with passion for change and relentless focus on execution. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving and human relations skills. Ability to make difficult decisions with sometimes an incomplete set of data. Critical skills include: Execution, attention to detail, initiative, conflict resolution, customer focus, collaboration, building ownership and commitment, developing others, establishing direction, drive for change, getting organization support and tenacity.

Howmet Aerospace has an immediate opening for an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer at our Engines Products – Tempcraft Operations.  The site operates from two manufacturing locations, one at 3960 S. Marginal Rd. Cleveland, OH and the second at 10147 Brecksville Rd in Brecksville, OH. Our passionate commitment to EHS provides the successful candidate with an excellent environment in which to work and the leadership commitment and support to deliver results.  This position is a key member of the EHS team, is a highly visible position in the operations and in the Howmet Engines Business Unit.

Howmet Engines is a world-class producer of aero engine and industrial gas turbine components, including airfoils, rings, disks and forgings. We excel in vacuum melted superalloys, machining, performance coatings and hot isostatic pressing for high performance parts that enable the next generation of quieter, more fuel-efficient aero engines and cleaner power generation.

In close cooperation with the location’s leadership team, this position will be accountable for driving environmental, health and safety efforts across the location. Significant interface will be required with local management, business unit management and other internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Responsible for managing programs, policies and practices related to Health, Safety and Environmental.  Acts as the facility coordinator and contact for internal customers and external agencies for all matters pertaining to EHS. Ensures compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulatory requirements and per company standards.   Supports location EHS Manager in the overall EHS process implementation and oversight.  Demonstrates knowledge of EHS management systems and supports development and implementation of systems. Writes procedures, administers requirements, and conducts recordkeeping. Participates in incident investigation teams as required to assure prompt, thorough incident review and makes appropriate corrective action recommendations.  Coordinates the development of systems to ensure incidents/quarterly metrics are kept per guidelines. Assists with site emergencies (spill response/guidance/coordinating training). Provides oversight for effective EHS internal Audit Self-Assessment Program. Provides direction and oversight for the respective EHS Single Point Accountable (SPA’S). Coordinates EHS training programs and provides training for employees as needed.  Prepares and submits reports and other required submittals as assigned by the company and all local, state, and federal regulatory bodies.  Leads and offers guidance to site team on risk assessment and risk prediction to mitigate risk of task-based activities.  Supports location on continuous improvement projects to reduce EHS risks.
