Manager - EHS & Fire Life Safety

Role Purpose

This position combines environmental, health, and safety (EHS) leadership with specialized fire and life safety (FLS) expertise to ensure comprehensive safety management across JLL's India city operations. As a key member of the JLL India team, this role is responsible for implementing and managing integrated ELS-FLS programs for critical client accounts, with primary focus on fire and life safety operations while maintaining essential EHS oversight.

The most important objective is ensuring all employees, contractors, and building occupants return home safely each day through proactive risk management, regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture. This highly visible role requires balancing strategic EHS leadership with hands-on FLS operations management across multiple sites.

What This Job Involves

Fire & Life Safety Operations Leadership:

Comprehensive FLS Program Management Lead and oversee India FLS operations across all city locations, ensuring compliance with internal requirements and local regulatory standards. Drive effective implementation of corporate FLS programs and initiatives while maintaining optimal performance across the portfolio. Work closely with India FM City leads and FLS City Managers to ensure seamless program execution.

Incident Management & False Alarm Reduction Ensure all FLS incidents are properly captured, investigated, and resolved with appropriate remedial actions. Lead initiatives to reduce false alarms by monitoring and analyzing fire alarm trends, implementing control measures against reduction baseline targets. Conduct thorough incident investigations to determine root causes and implement preventive measures for continuous improvement.

Emergency Preparedness & Response Systems Oversee emergency drill implementation and post-drill reviews to capture improvement opportunities. Ensure standard operating procedures for emergency response and FM operations are adequate and regularly reviewed. Manage comprehensive AED program deployment, maintenance, and training across the portfolio.

FLS Team Development & Training Provide specialized training, guidance, and oversight to FM teams and FLS representatives. Host monthly governance meetings with city leads to ensure effective program implementation. Lead recruitment and retention initiatives for fire wardens and first aiders to meet regulatory and operational requirements across all operation shifts.

Compliance & Quality Assurance Conduct regular FLS inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed within agreed timescales. Maintain accurate Go/FLS website updates and prepare comprehensive monthly progress reports. Conduct annual oversight reviews of Site Specific Safety Plans and FLS surveys completed by representatives.

Project Integration & Infrastructure Collaborate with project teams on FLS infrastructure and equipment installations. Conduct project handover inspections to ensure FLS compliance and property suitability for occupation. Support building construction projects relating to fire and life safety measures implementation.

Environmental, Health & Safety Leadership :

Strategic EHS Implementation Implement global EHS strategic objectives and ensure operational relevance within assigned accounts. Manage operational risks by providing guidance on EHS risk management at all levels while identifying improvement opportunities for practical, cost-effective solutions.

Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance Ensure building-related risk assessments align with legal requirements and client standards. Maintain current knowledge of relevant EHS legislation and communicate regulatory changes affecting service delivery. Support comprehensive incident and accident investigations with thorough root cause analysis.

Client Relationship & Service Delivery Develop and maintain strong relationships with client representatives and local stakeholders regarding EHS matters. Deliver exceptional service quality while ensuring proactive understanding of changing client EHS priorities. Ensure third-party vendor compliance with EHS standards.

EHS Culture & Team Development Foster comprehensive EHS culture across accounts through leadership and training initiatives. Support ISO 14001 and 45001 management system implementation and maintenance. Establish effective relationships with account teams, client organizations, and vendors for EHS compliance.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

Fire & Life Safety Expertise Minimum 5 years in fire and life safety operations, fire service, or fire systems experience. Deep knowledge of fire protection regulatory codes, building occupancy requirements, emergency procedures, and fire investigation methodologies. Extensive experience with FLS systems, emergency response procedures, and building construction projects relating to fire safety measures. Strong understanding of regional fire and life safety regulations and standards across India.

EHS Management Background Minimum 8 years developing, implementing, and managing EHS programs with strong track record in operational management systems working with corporate clients. Experience managing EHS across multiple sites with solid understanding of regulatory environments. ISO 14001 and 45001 management system development, implementation, and auditing experience.

Technical & Operational Competencies Practical experience with FLS and EHS technology platforms and data management tools across multiple regions. Experience developing process documentation and internal control procedures. Ability to conduct comprehensive audits and gather objective evidence through observation, interview, and sampling.

Technical Proficiency & Analysis Computer literacy with Microsoft Office suite including advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Web, and SharePoint applications. Ability to research, analyze, and produce comprehensive management information with strategic recommendations. Experience with data analysis and trend identification for continuous improvement.

Cultural & Business Leadership Strong cultural awareness with unwavering ethical standards and collaborative approach. Ability to operate effectively across geographies and cultures within matrix organizational structures. Agile leadership style with goal-oriented focus on measurable results and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional certifications in fire safety, EHS management, or related technical fields. Experience with international clients and multi-country operations management. Previous experience in facilities management or commercial real estate environments with complex regulatory requirements.
