Position Overview
The Educational Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) is a trained professional who facilitates communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within the educational setting. This role ensures equitable access to instruction by interpreting spoken language to American Sign Language (ASL) and ASL to spoken communication during classroom instruction, activities, and interactions.
Assignment Details
+ Location: Oswego, IL
+ Start Date: February 23, 2026
+ End Date: 20-week assignment
+ Schedule: Full-time preferred; part-time options available (as little as 1 day per week)
+ Hours: 35 hours/week
+ Pay Rate: $45–$50/hour
+ Caseload: Multiple buildings served; primary need at the elementary level with additional interpreting coverage as needed
Sample Schedules (Unpaid 30-minute break included)
+ Elementary (K–5): 8:45 AM – 4:00 PM
+ K–12 Program: 7:45 AM – 2:45 PM
+ Middle School: 8:00 AM – 3:15 PM
+ High School: 7:10 AM – 2:30 PM
Responsibilities
+ Provide ASL interpretation for students across instructional and school-related settings
+ Support communication access during lessons, activities, and peer interactions
+ Interpret ASL to spoken language and spoken language to ASL
+ Collaborate with teachers and staff to help support consistent student access
+ Maintain professional standards, confidentiality, and accuracy in interpretation
+ Assist in coverage needs across various grade levels as part of the interpreting team
Minimum Requirements
+ Proficiency in American Sign Language
+ Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in interpreting, deaf studies, or related field preferred
+ State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable)
+ EIPA certification (as required by state or client)
+ RID certification (as applicable per regulation or client requirement)
+ Compliance with professional standards
+ Current CPR certification (if applicable)
+ TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray (if applicable)
+ Current health certificate (as required)
+ Meets all federal, state, and local requirements
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
