We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director of Diverse Learners to lead the Division of Diverse Learners within the Office of Teaching and Learning. This critical leadership position will guide state-level policy and programs for special education, English Learners, and students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities. The Executive Director will ensure compliance with federal mandates such as IDEA and ADA, while advancing strategies to improve outcomes for more than 100,000 students with disabilities and over 30,000 English Learners statewide. The ideal candidate will have expertise in meeting the needs of diverse learners, a strong track record in program management, and demonstrated success in leading large-scale systems change. Minimum Qualifications Ten years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR Six years of full-time work experience plus seven years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR A bachelor's degree plus seven years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR An advanced degree plus six years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: As the Education Division Director for Teaching and Learning, Diverse Learners division, you will: + Oversee Special Education and EL Programs—ensure compliance with IDEA, ADA, and state laws; implement Louisiana’s Special Education Playbook; lead strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts. + Supervise and Support Staff—manage a team of program managers and specialists; provide coaching, assign work, approve leave/travel, and evaluate performance. + Coordinate Across Departments—collaborate with internal LDOE teams to integrate diverse learner supports into statewide initiatives. + Engage Stakeholders—serve as a liaison to OSEP and key state and national groups; engage with LEAs, families, advocates, and legislators to support diverse learner needs. + Manage Data and Budgets—analyze student and program data to guide decision-making; oversee IDEA budgets and discretionary grants; ensure effective use of state and federal funds. + Develop Guidance and Provide Training—create policies, tools, and resources for districts; lead professional development and technical assistance to support educators and school systems. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected. Work Schedule:Work days are Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined.
