Job Focus Area:
At the Louisiana Department of Education’s Office of Teaching and Learning, our vision is for all students to have improved outcomes through high-quality instruction and interactions by an effective teacher supported by leaders and families. In the Division of Numeracy, we achieve this by supporting local educators with the implementation of high-quality curricular materials, standards, and best practices.
This position will supervise a team of Education Consultants who provide support to instructional leaders across the state, with a focus on improving numeracy outcomes through direct coaching of system leaders, school leaders, and teachers.
An Ideal candidate will have the following skills:
+ Extensive previous leadership experience in math education, experience coordinating large-scale projects and working across complex systems, math content expertise and an educational background and/or content-related work experience in the area of math.
+ Strong knowledge base in math content, Louisiana K-12 Student Standards for Mathematics, and in-depth understanding of the latest research in math education.
+ Strong oral and written communication skills, effective organizational skills, maximizing the use of technology, and strong project management and customer service skills.
+ Ability to work as part of a team.
+ Ability to engage in the observation and review implementation to refine strategy and plans through an ongoing improvement cycle.
+ Experience in collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver a common and consistent message to the field in support of Louisiana’s academic strategy for computer science.
+ Efficient and effective use of various software systems (Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, etc.).
+ Previous project management experience.

Nine years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
Six years of full-time work experience plus six years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus six years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
An advanced degree plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As an Education Consultant Supervisor, you will serve as a senior-level leader on the numeracy team while leading a team of field-based numeracy coaches in their support of math improvement at the local school systems, school, or classroom level. The person appointed to this position will:
+ Train, manage, and coach field-based coaches in support of quality implementation of standards, curriculum, assessment, and professional development.
+ Maintain professional knowledge of state and federal program requirements relating to mathematics education and state content standards.
+ Interpret and implement the policies of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) that pertain to quality implementation of K-12 mathematics education.
+ Lead
+ field-based coaches in the supporting systems in integrating curriculum and assessment through ongoing training and technical assistance.
+ field-facing support of LDOE mathematics resources, including implementation of high-quality curricular materials, content-specific tools, standards and resources, supporting the coherence of mathematics strategies across the LDOE.
+ work to provide expertise and guidance on mathematics across the state through direct school and system support.
+ Oversee and manage the messaging to schools and systems regarding high-quality mathematics instructional materials and LDOE resources, adhering to LDOE timelines ensuring stakeholders receive and understand the message.
+ Assist in the ongoing development and implementation of a comprehensive system and school support strategy aimed at increasing student learning in classrooms, particularly focusing on the mathematics aspects of that strategy but recognizing the connection to other content areas and initiatives.
+ Engage with district mathematics supervisors, curriculum leaders, school leaders, coaches and teachers in implementing quality curriculum, required assessments and teacher support structures.
+ Integrate all resources to support educator effectiveness given a vision of mathematics instruction, including the Louisiana Educator Rubric, teacher preparation programs, mathematics supervisors, curriculum leaders, school leaders, coaches.
+ Design and facilitate presentations for professional development on standards-based mathematics content, instruction, and assessment, including collaborating to develop the mathematics strategy at the annual Teacher Leader Summit.
+ Direct and supervise personnel activities toward meeting goals and objectives related to division programs.
+ Advise the Education Division Director on the progress of programs in meeting established goals and objectives.
+ Make recommendations to the Education Division Director regarding mandated and discretionary programs and budgetary or personnel matters.
+ Support and attend Teaching and Learning and Division of Numeracy leadership meetings and cross-functional workgroups.
+ Lead effective check-ins with staff and Division of Numeracy leadership and provides management support to all staff to ensure their success.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.
Work Location: This position will service Caddo Parish and may occasionally need to travel and report to the Baton Rouge office.
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Workdays are Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
**Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Education Consultant series have a special entrance rate (SER) of $33.65 hourly that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career andnot the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
