Economist II, P2 Science, Data, and Insights
Description The central science organization for worldwide pricing and promotions at Amazon is recruiting talented tech economists to join our team. This role will support an exciting new initiative at Amazon that is not yet launched to our customers. We are looking for talented economists with expertise in causal measurement who are excited about building scalable solutions for key business initiatives. Key job responsibilities - Partner with principals and senior team members to drive science improvements and implement state-of-the-art econometric solutions - Partner with engineering and other science collaborators to design, implement, prototype, deploy, and maintain large-scale causal ML models. - Carry out in-depth research and analysis exploring pricing-related data sets, including large sets of real-world experimental data, to understand behavior, highlight model improvement opportunities, and understand shortcomings and limitations. - Define data quality standards for understanding typical behavior, capturing outliers, and detecting model performance issues. - Work with product stakeholders to help improve our ability to provide quality measurement of promotion effectiveness for our customers. About the team The Pricing and Promotions Impact Intelligence team measures causal effects of business programs worldwide. We leverage planet scale data on billions of Amazon and external competitor products to build advanced ML and econometric models to drive key insights for senior leadership and to serve as critical data-driven signals for core optimization algorithms. Basic Qualifications - PhD in economics or equivalent Preferred Qualifications - 2+ years of industry, consulting, government, or academic research experience - Experience working with very large, disparate data sets and big data tools such as Spark - 2+ years experience programming econometric models in Python. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
