**Job Description**
AECOM is seeking an experienced part-time variable (casual/on-call) Marine Ecologist to join AECOM’s Northeast Environmental Permitting and Planning practice. The location of this hybrid position is flexible (Chelmsford, MA, Boston, MA, Pocasset, MA, Manchester, NH) and is expected to begin in August **2025** . The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Supports a wide range of projects for private and government clients throughout the U.S. (and internationally).
+ Leads on-water sampling programs for collection of sediment, water, biota, and benthic samples, in freshwater, estuarine and marine environments, including at contaminated sites.
+ Performs sample processing, including sediment core logging and benthic infauna taxonomy.
+ Successfully coordinates with project teams, including subcontractors and vessel support, and delegating and overseeing junior staff.
+ Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require regular use of scientific principles and application of past experience.
+ Develops Sampling and Analysis Plans/Quality Assurance Project Plans.
+ Prepares technical deliverables; including writing reports and reviewing analyses.
+ Maintains knowledge of federal and state regulations/guidance documents for conducting sampling and marine surveys.
+ Maintains work quality, quantity, and efficiency at or above company standards.
**Qualifications**
Minimum Qualifications:
+ BA/BS + 6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and / or education
+ Bachelor’s. in Ecology, Zoology, Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science/Studies, Chemistry, Toxicology, or other related area.
+ Knowledgeable about benthic infauna native to the Atlantic Ocean.
+ Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
+ Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in Ecology, Zoology, Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science/Studies, Chemistry, Toxicology, or other related area.
+ 12+ years of experience performing marine surveys and on-water sampling, including familiarity with work on boats and vessels.
+ Ability (at times) to support marine and field-based programs in New England and New York Coastal/Offshore Waters.
+ Training for on-water/offshore work and OSHA 40-Hour training.
+ Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment unassisted on uneven terrain.
+ Excellent technical writing and communication skills, serving as primary author or lead reviewer on major project documents.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $50.00/hour - $55.00/hour.
