Early Formulation Science and Drug Delivery (EFS-DD) Senior Scientist

Use Your Power for Purpose

The key purpose of this position is to influence the early candidate, organic small molecule substrate from a physical chemical, drug delivery and bioperformance perspective through close collaboration with partners on the Research project teams and in Pharmaceutical Science.  You will need to act as a resident pharmaceutical science subject matter expert to inform, educate and influence Research teams in finding NCEs with desirable drug delivery and bioperformance properties.  This role will include assessment of in silico, in vitro and in vivo data as well as design of stage appropriate formulations for preclinical studies.  An awareness of later stage, oral solid development needs, as well as an understanding of the disease state and patient populations, will help to enable the definition of the required molecular design elements.

What You Will Achieve

In this role, you will:

Evaluate the physicochemical properties of potential small molecule drug candidates to inform a drug product formulation strategy and developability risk assessment

Closely collaborate with Drug Discovery partners to evaluate molecular attributes relevant to drug delivery and influence team strategies

Apply first principles understanding of thermodynamics and kinetic processes to dissolution and precipitation of drugs in biorelevant conditions and physical and chemical stability in the solid state.

Design and develop fit for purpose preclinical formulations (traditional and enabling) to enable robust candidate selection and progression

Assess and clearly communicate drug delivery and performance risks (using in silico, in vitro and in vivo data as well as sound scientific principles)

Maintain an awareness of and contribute to scientific literature; actively apply new concepts as appropriate

Conduct novel research and present significant findings via internal and external presentations or publications

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

Recent PhD with 0-3 year post-doctoral experience, MS with 7+ years experience, or BS with 8+ years' experience in Chemistry, Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Physics, Physical Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, or Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Experience with application of fundamental principles to solve complex problems.

Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and activities while managing rapid project timelines

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)

Experience with data structuring and data capture

Experience with prediction of small molecule physical properties and translation of molecular properties to predict formulation and bioperformance.

Experience in pharmacokinetic modeling and simulation using Gastroplus or similar PBPK modeling software

Experience with formulation design for preclinical studies, as well as awareness of drug product design criteria for phase 1 clinical trials

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have the ability to perform laboratory work.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Intermittent/occasional travel within continental US required.
