Chemours is seeking an Electrical and Instrument Mechanic to join our growing Operations team! This position will report directly to the Maintenance First Line Supervisor at our LaPorte, Texas location.   

 

The primary responsibility of this role is to support production by performing diagnostics and repairs regarding all electrical and control aspects of equipment in a chemical manufacturing plant. The mechanic will diagnose trouble or malfunctions of equipment and then repair, maintain, replace and install all parts and equipment to return the process to normal operation. The mechanic applies working knowledge and experience to improve maintenance techniques and operations, and upgrade equipment.   

 

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:  

Test, troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment and electrical circuits by using specialized instruments such as multi-meters, wiggies, clamp-on ammeters, oscilloscopes and frequency meters and computers Install specialized troubleshooting equipment for diagnostics  Troubleshoot process control computer systems, including but not limited to DCS, Modicon & Siemens PLC, ControlLogix, and RSLogix using portable computers; troubleshoot temperature, level, and pressure control instruments and processors; troubleshoot AC or DC variable speed drives.  Perform High Voltage switching for Substation PM and repair work.  Check and perform preventive maintenance on motor control center equipment; repairs or replaces motors as needed.  Perform ISO calibration on gauges, temperature controllers, etc. - Calibrate gages, controllers, transmitters etc.; calibrate substation breakers occasionally; coordinate calibration of test equipment. Utilize sensory instruments to aid in identifying issues. Utilize technical documentation (prints, manuals, specifications, etc.) to aid in troubleshooting.  Perform root cause analysis of failure and correct to prevent reoccurrence. Review previous failure modes to aid in discovery of patterns in root cause and bad actors. Follow up on repairs with observation and monitoring of equipment after it is in service to confirm effective repairs.  Develop, document, and perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to improve mean time between failures (MTBF).  Perform alignment and calibration of instruments and electrical circuits to ensure proper operation.  

Normal working hours are 6:30am - 3:00pm, Monday - Friday.   

  

In order to be qualified for this role you must possess the following:   

High School diploma or GED equivalent  Two-year Certificate / Associate Degree in Instrumentation or two years of industrial E&I experience.  Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and able to learn new computer systems. SAP experience preferred.  Passing completion of a written test  Passing completion of a drug screening and physical abilities test  Willing and able to work overtime, including holidays, weekends, and on short notice call-in as required. Willing and able to work in a high hazard process.   

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:   

Journeyman Electrician certification.  

Experience with Power Distribution Systems,(2300 – 480 VAC), troubleshooting and repair experience with AC / DC variable speed drives  

Experience troubleshooting and repairing Programmable Logic Controllers and/or Digital Control Systems (DCS) knowledge 

Experience in reading and interpreting Schematics, Procedures, Manufacturers’ Literature, Safety Requirements, General Instructions, and ability to learn and detect process deviations.  

Experience with mobile crane operation and operating powered industrial vehicles (fork trucks, pallet trucks, tow devices, etc.).  

Experience performing a job safety analysis and equipment lockout safety procedures.  

 

Physical Requirements:  

Willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, ladders, columns, and to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, reach overheads, hear and respond to alarms, and possess visual acuity for close work.   

Willing and able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed shoes, hardhat, Nomex, protective eyewear, face shields, arc protective clothing, and SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus).  

 

Successful applicants will be required to take an online pre-employment test, participate in pre-employment selection process and interviews.  The pre-hiring process will include a drug screening along with a security background check.
