About this Job
This position is located in theGreater New Orleans Areaand provides physical security and police protection to state buildings. If selected, you will be assigned to one of the following buildings: The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA School), The New Orleans Office of Motor Vehicles, or another state building as determined by the Capitol Detail Commander.
This position is responsible for providing traffic, investigation, and support services to aid the DPS Police - Capitol Detail in fulfilling its objectives and goals in public safety services. The incumbent must subscribe to and exemplify the core values of the Louisiana State Police: Loyalty, Equity, Accountability, Duty, Excellence, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.
Minimum Qualifications
No experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Serves as a Field Training Officer, lead worker, or other specialized role within the DPS Police.
Conducts proactive police patrols, issues citations, investigates crashes, and responds to all calls for service.
Patrols assigned area to deter and prevent criminal activity.
Investigates crashes, keeps bystanders out of danger, renders first aid, questions drivers and witnesses and prepares narrative reports of conditions and causes of crashes.
Supervises removal of injured persons and vehicles to restore highway safety and normal traffic flow.
Regularly conducts investigations of any crime or complaint within the patrol area; documents findings and enlists assistance if necessary.
Oversees law enforcement tasks completed by lower level law enforcement officers.
Inspects and maintains equipment
Position-Specific Details:
Starting pay is determined by your level of experience according to the following schedule:
DPS Cadet (0-3 years of law enforcement experience. No minimum experience is required) - $42,016 per year
DPS Officer (3 years as a POST-certified police officer with the power of arrest) - $ 49,670 per year
DPS Senior Officer (4 years as a POST-certified police officer with the power of arrest) - $ 53,144
Experienced officers who are POST Certified may be hired at up to $31.17 an hour ($64,834 per year). Only well-qualified applicants with additional certifications and more than 10 years of service will qualify for this starting pay rate.

Officers are also eligible for yearly pay increases and can reach a maximum pay according to this schedule:
DPS Corporal (automatic promotion after 3 years as a Senior Officer – Maximum yearly salary - $92,851
DPS Sergeant (competitive promotion process) - Maximum yearly salary - $99,362
DPS Lieutenant (competitive promotion process) - Maximum yearly salary -$113,755
DPS Police Captain (competitive promotion process) - Maximum yearly salary - $130,250
