**Summary:**

As a Product Design Engineer, you will take a critical role in developing hardware systems for MR, AR, or New Technology Initiatives. You will become part of a team exploring developing concepts through prototyping and into mass-production consumer electronics. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains other than mechanical engineering. Our team supports mechanical engineering fundamentals, prototyping skills, CAD fluency, manufacturing process knowledge, and experience designing consumer electronics.

Display System Opto-Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Lead the mechanical design for a particular component, feature or system while having end-to-end product development understanding
2. Contribute to mechanical solutions as part of a highly cross-functional team
3. Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems
4. Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping product
5. Collaborate and manage work with Asia-based Supply Chain
6. Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solving complex mechanical problems while working with cross functional technical teams
7. Travel to external vendors up to 20%
**Minimum Qualifications:**

8. BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
9. 6+ years of industry experience in mechanical design
10. Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, GD&T, and 3D/2D CAD
11. Working knowledge in material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, and glass
12. Testing and analysis experience (FEA, Simulation, Design of Experiments, etc.)
13. Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.)

14. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field
15. In depth understanding of mechanical design as it relates to optical performance, precision engineering, and manufacturing process
16. Experience with at least one of the CAD design tools, such as NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar
17. Proficient in GD&T standards, dimensional metrology, statistics, Gauge R&R, and their application to process and design controls in high volume manufacturing
18. Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly, with a focus on cost-effective and efficient design solutions
19. Analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze complex systems and identify innovative solutions
20. Working knowledge of optical principles, including geometric optics, wave optics, optical components, adhesives, etc
21. Familiarity with industry-standard optical design and testing tools, such as Zemax, Code V, FRED, or similar
22. Experience working on mechanical design and productization of augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR) display systems
23. Extensive hands-on experiences on NX is preferred
24. Hands on experience with mechanical simulation tools, such as ANSYS or Abaqus, with working knowledge of material behaviors including polymers, adhesives, and brittle materials
25. Working knowledge of main optical components in one or more of the following areas like waveguide design and manufacturing, LCoSi display, uLED, eye-tracking
26. Knowledge of image processing and optical-display metrics such as MTF, contrast, luminance, and uniformity
27. Familiar with data processing and analysis tools like JMP, Tableau, MATLAB, Python, and R
28. Experience working with offshore Contract Manufacturers in delivering consumer electronics products in mass production
29. Proven communication and collaboration skills, with the experience working effectively with cross-functional teams
**Public Compensation:**
$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
