About this Job
This position is responsible for staff development and training in a Disability Determinations Services regional office. It requires current and detailed knowledge of all policies and procedures involved in the adjudication of claims for disability benefits filed under Title II and Title XVI of the Social Security Act as well as all policies and procedures necessary for adjudication of continuing disability reviews.
This position is located in the Shreveport office of Louisiana Disability Determinations Services.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of social services experience plus three years of experience in disability determinations; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of experience in disability determinations; OR
A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in disability determinations; OR
An advanced degree in social work, education, business, public, or health administration, a social sciences field, or a Juris Doctorate plus two years of experience in disability determinations.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties
As a Disability Determinations Specialist you may commonly perform the duties described below:
+ Develop/modify training manuals and resource materials.
+ Coordinate, conduct, and/or participate in ongoing staff development training sessions.
+ Conduct new examiner classroom training and work closely with trainees during their first year to provide guidance on caseload management and decision-making.
+ Maintain policy and program expertise to provide staff consultation and guidance, problem solve, and conduct case reviews.

Career Progression: This position is not part of a career progression group
Work Schedule: General work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday. Other work schedules are available with management approval.
Compensation: The following is a Special Entrance Rate (SER)for the Disability Determinations Specialist job title located in the Disability Determinations Services, within the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS):
Disability Determinations Specialist: $1,948.00 biweekly. This position is eligible for premium pay of up to $2.00 per hour.
