Working alongside colleagues in employment tax, pensions, severance, and equity, the team provides comprehensive support to employers facing complex payroll compliance challenges. The evolving payroll landscape, characterised by frequent legislative changes and increased stakeholder scrutiny, makes our team's expertise and agile approach invaluable to clients navigating this complexity.
About the role
As Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of managed payroll services and consulting within PwC. You will provide strategic leadership to ensure operational excellence, robust compliance, and innovation in payroll delivery. A critical part of your role will be leading the growth of our payroll consulting business by unlocking new opportunities and delivering tailored payroll solutions that address our clients’ evolving needs.
What your role will involve
Take ultimate responsibility for the delivery of managed payroll services across a large and diverse client portfolio, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and operational efficiency at every stage.
Lead, inspire, mentor and develop a high-performing payroll team, fostering a culture of expertise, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate closely with specialist teams in employment tax, pensions, gender pay gap reporting, and other related advisory areas to provide integrated solutions to clients.
Play an active role in PwC’s global payroll network, helping deliver consistent, scalable payroll services to multinational clients across multiple jurisdictions.
Drive thought leadership by contributing to market insights, representing PwC at industry forums, and leading client proposals and presentations.
Expand the business by developing compelling new propositions and managed payroll services that address client compliance challenges, operational efficiencies, and digital transformation opportunities.
Build and maintain trusted client relationships, identifying growth areas, understanding client pain points, and partnering to deliver innovative payroll solutions.
Provide strategic leadership encompassing vendor management, compliance oversight, and process improvement initiatives to support business growth and operational success.
Lead process optimisation and efficiency initiatives to ensure smooth and effective payroll operations.
Demonstrate a high attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and confidentiality in all activities.
Manage multiple projects effectively, utilising strong project management skills to deliver results on time and within scope.
Exhibit the ability to interact effectively at all organisational levels, both internally and with clients, fostering collaboration and influence.
What you bring to the role
Extensive senior leadership experience in payroll management and consulting, preferably within a professional services firm or similarly complex environment.
Strategic mindset combined with a drive for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Deep expertise in payroll operations, compliance frameworks, and experience leading payroll digital transformation initiatives.
Strategic vision and a proven track record in growing payroll-related propositions and services.
Strong business development capabilities, including leading client engagements, proposal development, and influencing key stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, adept at building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels.
An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to spot market trends, identify new opportunities, and successfully drive their development.
Proven ability to manage vendors and third-party relationships effectively to enhance service delivery.
High attention to detail, commitment to accuracy, SLAs/KPIs and upholding confidentiality in sensitive payroll matters.
Strong project management skills with experience managing complex projects from initiation through to successful delivery.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and geographically diverse environment.
Proven ability to evaluate technology solutions, drive automation and data quality solutions.
