What We Offer The Director of Pay Operations is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end accounts payable process for the entire Novant Health organization, ensuring timely and accurate payments to vendors, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective internal controls. This role leads a team of Accounts Payable professionals, supports process improvement initiatives, and collaborates with various departments to maintain financial integrity and operational efficiency. What You'll Do Essential Functions: Leads and manages the daily operations of the Accounts Payable department, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and staff supervision. Ensures timely, accurate, and compliant disbursement of payments in accordance with organizational policies and healthcare regulations. Oversees month-end and year-end closing processes for accounts payable, including reconciliations and reporting. Develops, implements, and monitors internal controls to prevent fraud, errors, and inefficiencies. Maintains strong working relationships with vendors, resolve disputes and ensure proper documentation. Collaborates with other supply chain teams such as procurement, strategic sourcing and vendor specialists as well as other Novant Health teams such as finance and information technology, and clinical departments to streamline procure-to-pay processes. Evaluates and implements automation and technology solutions to enhance accounts payable efficiency. Ensures compliance with IRS regulations Trains, mentors, and evaluates the accounts payable team members; develops staff performance plans and support career development. Prepares and presents reports to senior leadership on accounts payable performance, vendor activity, and process improvement metrics. Participates in audits, both internal and external, providing required documentation and analysis. Stays updated on healthcare finance trends, regulatory changes, and accounts payable best practices. What We're Looking For Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required in Accounting, Finance or Business. Graduate Degree. preferred. Experience: Seven years Experience in Accounts Payable, with at least 3 years in healthcare environment, required. Five years experience in a Leadership or Management role, required. Licensure/Certification: CPA, preferred. Additional Skills (required): Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong communication skills for vendor negotiations and internal collaboration. Knowledge of GAAP and healthcare financial compliance standards. Strong understanding of healthcare financial operations, supply chain processes, and regulatory requirements. Experience with ERP systems such as Infor, Oracle, SAP, Workday, or similar system. Proven track record of process improvement, system implementation, and team development. Additional Skills (preferred): Experience in a multi-location or large healthcare organization.
