Y Grade 9, Salary:$50,000-54,000 annually

Probation:Subject to Montana statutory introductory (probationary) period
POSITION SUMMARY:The Director of Youth Development is responsible for the organization and delivery of quality youth development programs, including Summer Day Camps, School's Out Day Camps, Teen Club Programming, as well as oversight of the Childwatch, Family Service Programming at the Missoula YMCA. The director reports to the Senior Director of Youth Development, and will work alongside the senior director to develop, review, and monitor budgets for their department. The director manages all aspects of their programs, including hiring, staff training, staff scheduling, curriculum, program innovation, transportation, and quality across all sites. The director develops and maintains community partnerships with outside organizations. The director should have a deep passion for youth; a high level of energy; strong management and organizational skills; grit; and work well under pressure. Must be able to thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ In preparation for summer: work cooperatively with “camp team” to create cohesive camp vision for quality programming & safety in all YMCA camps; plan curriculum forDay Camps,Curiosity Camps,Adventure Camps,KinderCamps, andTeen Camps; collect and organize supplies & equipment; foster collaborative relationships with community partners; interview & hire camp staff; plan and implement camp training.
+ During summer months, serve asCamp Directorfor Day Camps, Curiosity Camps, Adventure Camps, KinderCamps and Teen Camps. Responsibilities include: the safety of all children in the YMCA’s care; scheduling and supervising camp counselors; preparing rosters, camp schedules, lesson plans, equipment, & supplies; transporting participants in YMCA vehicles; organizing camp events; monitoring camp billing; and communicating with participant families.
+ Throughout the school year, plan and implementSchool’s Out Day Campon no-school days. Responsibilities include: recruiting and scheduling staff; preparing camp curriculum; organizing supplies & equipment; proactively communicating with community parnters; coordinating shared spaces with the YMCA management team; creating camp rosters; working alongside frontline staff in camps; transporting participants in YMCA vehicles; coordinating meals with the Food Program (ordering, preparations, & records); and communicating with participant families.
+ Plan and implement YMCATeen Clubprogramming. Responsibilities include: volunteer recruitment & training, tracking volunteer hours; preparing club curriculum; organizing supplies & equipment; coordinating shared spaces; creating club rosters; shopping for supplies; working alongside volunteers & frontline staff in clubs; transporting participants in YMCA vehicles; communicating with participant families; innovating teen programming on an annual basis.
+ Throughout the year, supervises the manager of the YMCAChildwatchandFamily Service Programming(Parents’ Night Out, Family Fun Time, etc.). Responsibilities include: establishing a quality of care consistent with all YMCA youth programs; coordinating shared spaces with the YMCA management team; monitoring department budget; supporting manager with staff development and communication to participant families.
+ Throughout the year, managesBirthday Party Packages. Responsibilties include: coordinating shared spaces with the YMCA Management Team; confirming rental details & communicating with renters & YMCA Welcome Center; recruiting, training, & scheduling staff; working shifts as needed; basic cleaning & maintenance of spaces between rentals; budgeting and promotion of Birthday Pary Packages; and providing exemplary member service.
+ Support various other YMCA youth programs including but not limited to: Active 6, After School, Midday Move, SPLASH, and Youth Sports.
+ As amanager, support staff with: open communication; staff meetings; training opportunities; site checks; open office hours; shifts worked alongside frontline staff, and seasonal/annual performance reviews. Verify and submit bi-weekly time records to business office for payroll.
+ Provide exemplary member service to YMCA members & program participants' families: assisting with registration, billing, schedule changes, and questions; positively interacting with families of program participants regarding individual children's behaviors; and developing methods of modifying inappropriate behavior for optimal experiences in programs.
+ Develop, review, and monitor annual Youth Development and Family Servicesbudgetsto meet fiscal objectives; work to achieve program enrollment goals; compile statistics and reports; and create draft budgets to determine new program feasibility.
+ Work with Senior Director of Youth Development & Marketing department to meet timely promotional and informational deadlines.
+ With a forward-thinking lense, lead out in the organization: improving quality of programs, materials, and practices year after year and by building/maintaining community parnterships.
+ Ensure quality & safety are always at the forefront of all youth programs. Lead by example and hold staff accountable to maintain YMCA quality and safety standards.
+ Participate in larger YMCA organization planning, work, and meetings. Support the organization through participation in fundraising & special events (Annual Support Campaign, Riverbank Run, etc.), by championing the organization in the community, and through effective communication with all YMCA departments and staff.
+ Completes required child sexual abuse prevention training, comply with legal and ethical obligation as a mandatory reporter of suspected child abuse and cooperate fully with any investigation of such abuse.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
+ Required – Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; OR five or more years related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Required – must have current CPR or obtain within first 30 days of employment
+ Required – Valid driver’s license with insurable driver’s record – required to drive Y vehicles
+ Preferred – Belay certified (or must obtain within first 90 days)
Experience
+ Required – Successful experience in supervising and managing others
+ Required – Excellent organization and administrative skills
+ Preferred – Five or more years in a leadership role in a youth serving organization or camp
