About the job:

The U.K. is of significant importance for Thermo Fisher Scientific where we have a strong history of over 40 years. The Director of UK Government Relations will be instrumental in building on our strategic engagement with officials and in the development and implementation of strategies to ensure significantly increased reputation. The role entails collaborating across business and functions, and engaging with key opinion leaders, policy makers, industry associations and advocacy groups to advance the company mission. This is a high profile role for an independent professional and strong communicator, who will have the privilege to represent the world leader in serving science in government interactions. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Director of EMEA Government Relations and Public Affairs in Brussels, and will be based in the London area.

Key Responsibilities:Develop and implement impactful strategies  in alignment with our mission and in partnership with the country leadership team.Act as the primary point of contact and maintain working relationships with government officials, members of business and trade associations, embassies, and other organisations.Lead C-suite meetings with policy makers and coordinate ministerial visits at Thermo Fisher facilities.Drive policy engagement, coordinate responses to consultations, build alliances and relationships across the U.K.Advance Thermo Fisher’s leadership in industry associations to ensure aligned positions; continuously assess whether Thermo Fisher’s interests are efficiently covered by these platforms.Attend strategic industry events, conferences, and policy forums to promote thought leadership.In collaboration with other functional leaders, lead on the development of briefing documents and position statements that highlight policy issues on topics of strategic importance.Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:Increased experience in developing and implementing impactful government affairs strategies that drive positive policy outcomes.An independent strategist who is able to operate in diverse regulatory environments and complex geopolitical environments.A strong network of key decision makers within the UK policy and political landscape, with an excellent understanding of key public policies and issues.Experience working directly with senior leadership teams and ability to provide strategic counsel, influence decision-making, and represent the function at the highest levels with impact and integrity.Bachelor's in law, political science, international relations, public affairs, or a related field.
