Director of Solutions and Delivery - Pensions

A leading UK pensions investment manager is seeking a Director of Solutions and Delivery to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of member-focused pension services. This senior leadership position offers you the opportunity to convert strategic objectives into tangible, high-quality outcomes that directly benefit members.

Are you ready to lead transformative change in a complex, member-focused environment? As the Director of Solutions and Delivery, you will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, process engineering, and regulatory compliance within the pensions sector. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead transformation initiatives while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

About the Role

This role requires a dynamic leader who can navigate the complexities of UK-specific pension systems, manage offshore suppliers, and deliver measurable improvements across operations. You will oversee multi-disciplinary teams spanning delivery operations, process optimisation, change management portfolios, and data intelligence functions. By translating strategic goals into actionable plans, you will ensure member-first outcomes while addressing inefficiencies in legacy systems and processes.

With responsibility for leading transformation programmes—including system re-platforming and data strategy implementation—you will be instrumental in preparing the organisation for future demands. Your ability to balance big-picture thinking with hands-on leadership will be key to success.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership in Transformation: Lead major system transformation initiatives, including re-platforming efforts to make operations "fighting fit" for future demands. Recover and improve legacy systems and processes through structured process engineering and operational enhancements. Manage offshore suppliers, ensuring effective collaboration despite complex pension systems and regulatory requirements. Process Engineering Expertise: Analyse and re-engineer core processes to address inefficiencies and improve operations within UK-specific pensions frameworks. Deliver regulatory changes, routine updates, and factor recalculations through structured project management across five core processes. Work closely with trusted advisors to identify opportunities for improvement and add value back to members. Delivery Focus: Oversee engineering teams and delivery leads to push smaller releases while delivering services for over 100+ employers. Run campaigns addressing large-scale data issues impacting member benefits, ensuring accurate Statements of Work (SOW) and improved employer engagement. Manage delivery leads across Change, balancing large project work with incremental improvements. Data Strategy Implementation: Launch and oversee a comprehensive data strategy for trustees, creating an ecosystem that supports reporting, business intelligence (BI), and operational planning using tools like Power BI. Lead two distinct teams: one focused on reporting/BI support for operations, and another specializing in querying and analysing data. Team Leadership & Resource Management: Lead a team of people with an annual change budget of £1 million dedicated to continual improvement initiatives. Support trustee charge oversight alongside operational leadership responsibilities.

What We’re Looking For

To excel in this role, you’ll bring extensive experience from senior leadership positions within complex operational or service delivery settings—ideally within regulated industries such as pensions or financial services. You will also demonstrate:

Business Change Expertise: Strong understanding of business change and process improvement—not purely IT-focused. Ability to set up disciplined ways of working while fostering innovative thinking to solve problems radically rather than incrementally. Leadership & People Management: Skilled at supporting teams through change by instilling discipline, structure, and accountability while upskilling staff where needed. Hands-on approach—comfortable writing papers, leading workshops, facilitating decision-making, and mentoring teams without being precious about responsibilities. Operational Leadership & Industry Knowledge: Experience in pensions or financial services (not investment-focused), with expertise in process mapping, customer engagement, and operational leadership. Open to working from regional office (2.5 hours out of London) on a weekly basis initially (travel expenses paid for) and then fortnightly visits to this office after a few months
