The Clayfield is a new 102-room luxury boutique hotel opening in Niagara-on-the-Lake and part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt.  Operated by Urgo Hotels & Resorts Canada, The Clayfield will deliver a highly personalized, refined guest experience grounded in calm luxury, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of place.

The Director of Rooms is responsible for the leadership and performance of Front Office and Housekeeping, ensuring an exceptional guest experience at every stage of the stay. Reporting to the General Manager, this role combines hands-on operational leadership with high service standards, strong team engagement, and disciplined execution.

This position will appeal to a proven department head who values breadth of responsibility and hands-on leadership across multiple Rooms disciplines.

What You’ll Do

Lead Front Office and Housekeeping operations to deliver a consistently high-quality, intuitive, and personalized guest experience Set, uphold, and model service standards appropriate to a luxury boutique hotel environment Ensure guestrooms and public areas meet the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, and readiness Maintain a visible leadership presence in the operation and engage directly with guests Actively monitor guest feedback and service performance, responding to issues with professionalism and care Recruit, train, and lead Rooms teams with a strong focus on service excellence, accountability, and pride of work Support pre-opening activities including hiring, training, SOP development, systems setup, and operational readiness Develop staffing models and schedules that balance service expectations with labour discipline Partner closely with Engineering, Spa and other departments to support room readiness, preventive maintenance alignment, and service recovery Participate in Rooms budgeting and maintain control of labour and operating expenses while upholding service standards Ensure compliance with brand standards, health and safety requirements, and local regulations

What You’ll Bring

3–5+ years of progressive hotel operations experience, with leadership responsibility in Front Office (essential) and Housekeeping (preferred). Experience in upscale, boutique, or luxury hotel environments preferred A composed, hands-on leadership style with a strong service mindset Clear understanding of how operational detail and team behaviour shape guest experience Strong communication and interpersonal skills Comfort working in a pre-opening environment where teams and systems are being built Sound judgment, professionalism, and attention to detail Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays
