The Director of Radiology Services provides strategic and operational leadership for comprehensive radiology and imaging services. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing all aspects of imaging operations while ensuring exceptional quality, efficiency, and patient-centered care.
Working collaboratively with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders, the Director actively contributes to the development and execution of strategic, clinical, and business initiatives. This leader champions innovation, fosters interdisciplinary partnerships, and ensures radiology services consistently meet the highest standards of excellence, safety, and customer responsiveness.
Areas of oversight may include Diagnostic Radiology, Computed Tomography (CT), Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Ultrasound and Vascular Ultrasound, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), including open and mobile MRI services. The role also supports enterprise-wide education initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and regulatory compliance across imaging services.
A caregiver in this position works days, 8:00am—5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide comprehensive leadership for Radiology and Imaging Services, ensuring appropriate staffing, equipment, and resources to meet inpatient and outpatient needs.
Oversee all personnel functions, including hiring, development, performance management, and corrective action, in accordance with organizational policies.
Foster a collaborative, safe, and high-performing work environment that promotes open communication, employee engagement, retention, and professional growth.
Lead all accreditation, regulatory, and compliance activities, including Joint Commission and other governing bodies, and ensure ongoing readiness.
Direct quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives using data-driven methodologies focused on patient safety, error prevention, and continuous improvement.
Ensure services are customer-focused by identifying stakeholder needs, measuring satisfaction, communicating updates, and implementing service enhancements.
Develop, manage, and monitor the departmental budget; analyze volumes, costs, and revenue; and support long-range operational and financial planning.
Support professional development for self and staff through education, training, and participation in professional organizations.
Maintain clinical competency and assist patient care as needed to support operational demands.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Hospital Administration, Allied Health or a related field
Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(ARRT), in good standing; specific credential dependent on modality or may also be credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, RDMS, through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or be a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board: C.N.M.T. dependent on modality
Current state licensure required prior to employment, dependent on modality
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
7 years of progressive healthcare service operations experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings
In addition, requires five years of related managerial experience
Experience should include preparing schedules, administering evaluations/corrective actions, interviewing, budgets and evaluating equipment
Proven positive relationship building with physicians, nursing and top leadership
Proven success in business planning and financial management
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master's Degree
Physical Requirements:
Requires high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a computer.
Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing and the ability to verbally communicate.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Must be available for after-hours support by pager and computer.
Must be able to function in a stressful environment.
