We’re looking for a Director of Product Engineering & Development to lead our talented engineering team in shaping the future of high-security mechanical and electromechanical products. This is a high-impact role for a strategic thinker and technical expert who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

 

This position will report directly to the General Manager of Medeco and will sit onsite full-time in Salem, VA.

 

 

What you will be doing 

 

Lead & Inspire: Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team across mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and test engineering. Drive Innovation: Own the full product development lifecycle—from concept to commercialization—across multiple product lines and platforms. Shape the Future: Develop and execute our annual Technology Roadmap and align engineering initiatives with strategic business goals. Champion Excellence: Oversee New Product Development (NPD), sustaining engineering, and Value Engineering (VA/VE) to deliver customer value and cost efficiency. Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Product Management, Operations, and Quality to ensure seamless execution and compliance with industry standards. Optimize Resources: Attract top talent, plan resources effectively, and build a strong succession pipeline. Engage with Customers: Participate in customer visits, product demos, and training to stay connected to market needs. Protect Innovation: Ensure intellectual property is captured and patented to strengthen our competitive edge.

 

 

What we are looking for

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (MBA preferred). 15+ years in engineering, including 5+ years in leadership roles managing large, cross-functional teams. Proven track record in electro-mechanical product development and launching products to market. Strong communicator and influencer with the ability to align stakeholders and drive results. Familiarity with FMEA, DFMA, 8D, SolidWorks, MS Project, and lean product development processes.

 

Preferred Skills:

Project Management Certification. Firmware development experience. Global team collaboration. IP portfolio management experience.
