This individual will be a key member of our Marketing Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Sr. Marketing Director, and will oversee a dynamic team of public relations specialists and communications professionals at both the corporate and regional levels. This role will shape how our brand shows up in the world. You will lead our external PR efforts, strengthen our internal communications platform, support crisis and change communication strategies. Equally important, you will build strong relationships with technical leaders and divisional teams, gaining a deep understanding of our services, business priorities, and technical complexities in order to translate them into clear, engaging narratives that drive brand recognition and business alignment. This position requires a proven senior-level storyteller with a passion for design and the built environment, someone capable of managing multiple deliverables while keeping a clear, strategic vision. They can clearly communicate our unique approach, highlighting what differentiates us from competitors and why it matters to our clients and communities. You will be partnering closely with our Digital Marketing team to integrate data-driven insights, explore new channels of communication, and expand our reach. Responsibilities + Lead PR & Communications Strategy – Develop and execute an integrated PR and communications strategy that strengthens CED’s brand reputation, supports business objectives, and elevates our presence in key markets. + Digital & Emerging Channels – Partner with the Digital Marketing team to align PR and communications strategies with broader digital campaigns and brand initiatives. + Storytelling & Positioning – Serve as CED’s lead storyteller, translating complex technical work into compelling, relatable narratives that communicate our positive impact on communities and real estate markets, highlight our unique approach, and differentiate us from competitors. + Internal Communications – Oversee the development of clear, timely, and engaging internal communications that foster employee engagement, alignment, and understanding of company priorities. + Media Relations – Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, industry media, and influencers; proactively identify media opportunities and manage press outreach and responses. + Crisis & Change Communications – Lead communication strategy during sensitive or high-visibility situations, ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely messaging. + Collaboration & Leadership – Mentor and guide a team of PR and communications professionals, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence. Build relationships with technical and divisional leaders to ensure alignment between communications efforts and business priorities. + Manage and mentor a team of corporate and regional PR and communications professionals. + Guide workload prioritization, project planning, and coaching to ensure timely and high-quality delivery. + Collaborate closely with marketing, business development, events, and corporate services to align messaging with business goals. Qualifications + 10+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or marketing communications, ideally within the AEC or professional services industry. + Proven track record of building high-performing teams and delivering measurable PR results. + Strong understanding of technical subject matter and the ability to distill complex information into clear, audience appropriate messaging. + Demonstrated success in collaborating with technical leaders and aligning communications strategies with business objectives. + Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across various formats. + Skilled at managing complex projects, competing priorities, and cross-functional stakeholders. + Media savvy, with a sharp understanding of today’s communications landscape. + Strategic thinker with a proactive, solutions-driven mindset. + Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field. + Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
