Director of Operations-Ferry Operations NOTE: The following position is for a proposed new/future business within Transdev. Only candidates meeting the work experience requirements will be considered. Transdev is looking for a Director of Operations. The Director of Operations is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management, and execution of ferry operations under the Transdev contract. This role ensures service delivery is safe, reliable, efficient, and fully compliant with contractual, regulatory, and organizational requirements. Reporting to the Contract Manager (General Manager), the Director of Operations oversees operational performance, frontline leadership teams, and service delivery while driving continuous improvement across all areas of the operation. This individual serves as a key operational liaison with the client and ensures alignment with contract expectations and performance standards. This position is based in San Francisco, CA. The above represents the standard Corporate Policy Key Responsibilities + Lead and manage all daily ferry operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery + Oversee operational performance metrics and implement strategies to meet or exceed contractual KPIs + Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as corporate and client policies + Supervise and develop operations staff, including managers, supervisors, and frontline personnel + Partner closely with the Contract Manager to support overall contract performance and client satisfaction + Monitor service delivery and proactively address operational issues, delays, or service disruptions + Ensure adherence to safety programs, policies, and initiatives, promoting a strong safety culture + Collaborate with maintenance, safety, and training teams to ensure seamless operational execution + Support labor relations efforts, including working within collective bargaining agreements (CBA) + Assist in budget management, cost control, and resource allocation to meet financial objectives + Participate in client meetings, reporting, and ongoing communication to ensure transparency and alignment + Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and implement continuous improvement initiatives + Maintain accurate operational records, reporting, and documentation Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in marine operations, transportation, business administration, or a related field + Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive operations leadership experience, preferably in marine transportation or a similar operational environment + Proven experience managing large, complex transportation operations or service delivery programs + Strong leadership experience overseeing diverse teams in a fast-paced, unionized environment + Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered Skills and Knowledge Required + Strong knowledge of transit or marine operations, including service delivery and logistics + Working knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations governing transportation operations + Experience working in or managing within a union environment (CBA experience preferred) + Demonstrated ability to drive operational performance and achieve KPI targets + Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and cost controls + Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in dynamic environments + Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders + Effective communication and leadership skills with a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and operational reporting tools Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
