Director of Nursing – Critical Care
Job Summary Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, a 654-bed, award-winning, Magnet®-recognized tertiary care hospital, is seeking an experienced and visionary critical care nursing leader to guide a high-performing healthcare team and help shape the future of nursing and patient care services. This role is a rare opportunity for a forward-thinking, seasoned nurse leader who can drive clinical excellence, inspire high-performing teams, and deliver exceptional patient outcomes in a dynamic environment. The Director of Nursing for Critical Care is responsible for 24/7 clinical operations and leading a broad and dynamic portfolio of programs and nursing units, including the ICU, CCU, CVRU, neuro ICU, medical and neurological intermediate care units, EEG, ECMO, regional stroke program, and the system-wide tele-ICU. This leadership role has six direct-report nurse managers and approximately 300 indirect reports. The Director collaborates with stakeholders across departments and facilities to coordinate critical care services and contributes strategic insight at both the system and regional levels. This position reports to the Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer for the Charlotte region and serves as the operational and programmatic leader for critical care nursing. Responsibilities + Contribute to the development and execution of Novant Health’s vision and strategy for patient care in alignment with the organization's mission, values, and long-term goals. + Collaborate with system leaders to manage interdependencies across service lines, enhance service offerings, expand programs, and support community engagement. + Provide strategic and operational oversight for assigned areas, including quality initiatives, marketing, clinical standards, regulatory compliance, and accreditation. + Work closely with medical and administrative leadership to plan, prioritize, and implement performance improvement initiatives across the organization. + Lead initiatives aimed at improving the patient, family, and team member experience. + Share accountability for operational and financial performance with physician dyad partners. + Oversee clinical operations and ensure efficient use of human and material resources to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care. Qualifications + Education: BSN required. Master’s degree in nursing or closely related field required. + Licensure: Current RN licensure in the applicable state required. + Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience, in critical care, at the Director level or above. + Skills and Competencies: + Strong understanding of clinical operations, healthcare trends, and regulatory standards + Proficient in performance management, budgeting, staffing, and resource planning + Excellent communication, decision-making, and strategic leadership skills + Ability to manage conflict, foster collaboration, and lead multidisciplinary teams + Skilled in employee development, coaching, and progressive discipline + Adept at building consensus and cultivating trust across diverse stakeholder groups + Demonstrated ability to lead change, promote innovation, and exceed patient and team expectations Job Opening ID 83856
