The Director of Network Automation will be an experienced and forward thinking, leading a high-performing team of automation engineers and architects. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends technical expertise with strategic direction to drive our automation initiatives forward. A nice balance of hands-on work (50%) vs. leadership & strategic direction (50%).
In this role, you will collaborate across engineering, production, and operations to lead the design, development, and integration of scalable automation solutions. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys solving complex problems, mentoring technical teams, and influencing long-term infrastructure strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and grow a diverse team of engineers across frontend, backend, and scripting disciplines with a focus on career development, trust, and technical excellence. Develop and implement a forward-looking automation architecture strategy aligned with enterprise goals. Focused on outcomes such as speed to market, improving resiliency, and reducing operational costs. Guide the design and delivery of scalable automation frameworks and tools, ensuring high standards from concept to operational support. Drive the adoption and development of internal automation platforms used across teams (Nautobot, Vault). Collaborate cross-functionally with development, operations, network engineering, and product teams to identify automation opportunities and reduce manual workload. Promote a culture of innovation, agility, and hands-on leadership while fostering continuous improvement. Oversee departmental planning, resource management, and technical execution of projects, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery. Define and monitor performance metrics for automation systems to ensure efficiency, security, and reliability. Provide clear, effective communication to stakeholders and senior leadership regarding project milestones, platform strategy, and team success.Technical & Strategic Focus Areas:
Automation Platforms: Nautobot, HashiCorp Vault, ServiceNow Languages & Tools: Ansible, Python, YAML, Shell scripting Integrations: API integration, API security, and making applications talk to each other Infrastructure: Cisco, Arista, F5, HA Proxy, Avocent, and Palo Alto Networks Cloud: AWS, Azure, Docker/Kubernetes, Terraform, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Processes: Agile delivery, ITIL processes, CI/CD pipelines, GitOps

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

You'll start each day with a scrum, working in a team to understand responsibilities, identify issues, and communicate coding priorities while choosing user stories to complete. You must know Agile well. Your 10+ years of Leading global teams have delivered amazing results, and you pride yourself on developing the people who work for you, as well as providing an inclusive team environment where they all can thrive. If asked, they would follow you anywhere and enthusiastically credit you with helping to grow their careers. You'll work with business leadership and project management to understand priorities and create automation accordingly.You will present and defend your team's approach to leadership. There is no typical day as you partner and work with people across the development organization to turn ideas into reality. You have 10+ years of experience in relevant skills gained and developed in the same or similar role
TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:
BS in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics preferred, or Equivalent 10+ years of hands-on experience in network automation and infrastructure operations, with proven leadership in managing senior-level engineers and architects. Deep expertise in scripting, automation frameworks, and orchestrating complex workflows. Demonstrated success in architecting and implementing scalable, reusable automation solutions. Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders with clarity and confidence. Excellent documentation, organization, and interpersonal skills. Strong understanding of Agile practices and enterprise-grade infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with service management frameworks (ITIL) and enterprise systems integration. Familiarity with frontend technologies like HTML/CSS, JavaScript, React or Angular is a plus.
