The Director of MEP Systems will be responsible for managing all MEP-related estimating and preconstruction efforts by coordinating with subcontractors, reviewing bids, and participating in early project planning. This role does not involve hands-on installation; instead, it focuses on strategic oversight and subcontractor management. The Director will serve as the company's subject matter expert for MEP systems across all projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop schematic design budgets for MEP scopes using personal experience or through coordination with qualified subcontractors Create detailed scopes of work and bid parameters to solicit competitive subcontractor bids Evaluate and select MEP subcontractors based on best value, experience, and alignment with project needs Conduct site visits on high-risk or technically complex projects to verify MEP installation quality and progress Manage direct accounts and relationships with national vendors for MEP materials when self-procurement is more cost-effective Participate in pre-bid site visits to gain project familiarity and ensure accurate estimations Represent company in client-facing project interviews (in-person or virtual) to communicate scope strategy, technical solutions, and value engineering opportunities for MEP systemsQualifications:
High School Diploma or GED; Mechanical/Electrical Engineering degree preferred, or 10+ years of field experience required Proven expertise in MEP estimating and preconstruction for commercial construction projects 7-10+ years of experience in the construction industry, preferably with MEP focus Strong knowledge of MEP systems, subcontractor management, and vendor coordination Ability to interact and communicate with clients Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel Experience working with estimating in Sage software and CM tools a plus Willing to travel to job sites in multiple states, including overnight stays as needed Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environmentPreferred Skills but not required – Nice to have:
