4 Year Degree The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is seeking an innovative and energetic Director of Marketing & Communications to help drive awareness, engagement, and excitement for the Conference. This role serves as the primary communications contact for assigned sports and championships, managing weekly and postseason awards, creating social media content, and maintaining the Conference’s website. The Director also supports video highlights, graphics, streaming coordination, and broadcast efforts, while collaborating with member institutions to engage fans and elevate the Conference’s visibility across all sports and events. Key responsibilities include:

Marketing and Branding: Assist in developing and executing marketing campaigns to promote Conference-sponsored sports, championships, special events, and Conference initiatives. Create marketing collateral and promotional materials to support ticket sales, fan engagement, and sponsorship activations. Ensure consistency in branding across all platforms and materials.

Sport Communications: Serve as the primary communications contact for assigned sports. Manage the weekly and postseason awards process, including coordinating nominations, compiling statistics, overseeing voting, tallying results, and disseminating information to media and member institutions. Write press releases, previews, and recaps while maintaining accurate and timely updates on the Conference website. Develop engaging content for social media to highlight student-athletes, coaches, and member institution achievements.

Content Creation and Digital Support: Assist with creating and distributing video highlights, graphics, and photo content for regular season contests, championships, weekly awards and storytelling efforts. Collaborate with member institutions to gather multimedia content and enhance coverage of student-athletes and championships. Support website content management by ensuring sport pages, championship pages, archives, and promotional materials remain current and accurate.

Streaming and Broadcast Support: Assist with coordinating streaming schedules for Conference-sponsored sports and championships in collaboration with member institutions and production contacts. Assist with distributing commercial inventory and broadcast elements to media rights partners to ensure accurate and timely delivery.

Social Media and Brand Engagement: Support the Conference’s social media strategy by creating content and coordinating messaging across all platforms. Assist in building the Conference’s online presence and driving digital engagement. Collaborate with the Director of Digital Content & Engagement to plan and execute integrated marketing, content, and communications strategies, including social media and digital storytelling.

Championship and Event Operations: Serve as the primary communications contact for assigned championships, including on-site media coordination, press conferences, interviews, and real-time dissemination of information. Manage the credentialing process for the MAAC Basketball Championships and other key events. Assist in producing the MAAC Basketball Championships game program. Oversee Conference initiatives, including the All-Academic Teams and Student-Athlete of the Week programs.

Records and Reporting: Maintain and update the Conference’s record books and historical archives. Manage statistics software for all sports, including contracting, setup, and implementation. Provide regular updates on media coverage and engagement metrics to Conference leadership.

Additional Duties: Assist in developing creative marketing elements, including graphics, championship signage and apparel. Support special projects and initiatives assigned by the Associate Commissioner for External Operations/SMA or Senior Associate Commissioner for External Affairs.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Associate Commissioner for External Operations/SMA while contributing to the overall strategy and initiatives of the Conference’s external unit.

Working Conditions: This position is based at the Conference Office. This position requires the ability to travel and work non-traditional hours, weekends, nights and holidays.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Sports Management or a related field. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.

 Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Competencies:

Extremely organized, self-starter, intrinsically motivated. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written channels. Ability to work collaboratively with Conference staff, administrators, coaches, student-athletes, and external partners. Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle sensitive information with discretion. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with meticulous attention to detail and strict adherence to deadlines. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with media partners, corporate sponsors, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of current trends in college athletics, with an emphasis on social media strategy, digital engagement, and content innovation.
