Job Summary

Responsible and accountable to the 119 Director of Operations.  The Director of Flight Safety provides oversight and administration of the Air Methods Flight Safety Program and acts as safety subject matter expert for the flight operations department. Responsible to ensure proper coordination with all departments on root cause analysis, trend analysis, proactive incident/accident prevention, quality escapes and safety investigations. Responsible for data collection and integration with the pilot training department in the implementation of evidence-based training. Acts as liaison to the Safety Department in the execution of overall Air Methods Safety Policy.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:  

Provide oversight and administration of both Flight Safety initiatives established in overall Safety program goals and related metricsProvide oversight and administration of the AMC Flight Safety Program to include:The Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) Program to include identifying trends and working with the Flight Training department to mitigate related risksThe Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP) for Flight to include identifying trends and working with the Flight Training department to mitigate related risksThe Aviation Safety Action Programs (MSAP) for Maintenance MS to include identifying trends and working with the Maintenance department to mitigate related risks APEnsure FOQA and ASAP are properly executed and staffed with qualified individualsEffectively partner with field operations, corporate-based Centers of Excellence (COE), subsidiaries, and support functions in evaluating current and future business processes and initiatives that could affect Flight Safety.  Ensure effective risk management practices are incorporated in all such efforts.Interface directly with the FAA, Company Directors, and Vice Presidents on all areas related to Flight Safety, Ground Safety, and Assurance programsPromote Air Methods’ safety culture through interactions/presentations with key stakeholders internally and externally throughout the Flight Safety and ASAP programs and industry safety conferencesMonitor safety issues, provide safety education, and investigate safety mattersAssist in the continuous improvement of hazard identification and safety risk management in the organization’s SMS programContribute to all Safety Promotion strategies and communicationsOther Duties as assigned.

Additional Job Requirements

Regular scheduled attendanceIndicate the percentage of time spent traveling - 20%

Subject to applicable laws and Air Method’s policies, regular attendance is an essential function of the position.  All employees must follow Air Methods’ employment practices and policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees in the Safety department.  Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.  For Exempt Managers:  Managers that carry out these responsibilities for two or more employees will have significant input in hiring and termination decisions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and ten or more years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum 5 Years management experience preferredSafety management, safety studies, or accident investigation training or education preferredWork experience in Air Transport Flight Operations [14 CFR Part 135 or 121] preferredExperience as an air medical services pilot preferred

FAA or DoD Pilot Certification with operational experience in previous 7 years preferred

Minimum pay USD $118,450.00/Yr. Maximum Pay USD $151,000.00/Yr. Benefits
