Position Summary
The Director of Employee Health and Workplace Safety is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of programs related to employee health, occupational safety, injury prevention, and workers' compensation in a home health and hospice care setting. This leader ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, coordinates essential health screenings and safety trainings, promotes a culture of safety, and works collaboratively across departments to enhance employee well-being and reduce risk.
Position Specific Responsibilities
• Oversee pre-employment and annual screenings, including flu vaccinations, TB testing, tracking, follow-up, and reporting.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records in compliance with HIPAA.
• Coordinate return-to-work evaluations, fit-for-duty assessments, and medical clearances in partnership with HR and clinical leadership.
• Monitor employee health trends and implement preventive health and wellness initiatives.
• Manage all aspects of the workers’ compensation program, including reporting, investigation, coordination with TPAs and carriers, and oversight of transitional duty and return-to-work programs.
• Analyze injury trends and implement prevention and cost-containment strategies.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal workers’ compensation laws.
• Lead workplace safety and injury prevention initiatives in compliance with OSHA, state health departments, and internal policies.
• Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard analyses in both office and field settings, including patient homes.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and complaints, developing corrective action plans.
• Maintain and update safety policies and procedures, including safe patient handling, infection control and PPE, vehicle safety, and workplace violence prevention.
• Design and deliver employee training on bloodborne pathogens, infection control, ergonomics, emergency preparedness, workplace violence prevention, safe lifting, and defensive driving.
• Integrate safety and health education into orientation and annual training, tracking participation and ensuring compliance.
• Maintain program compliance with OSHA, CDC, EEOC, CMS, Joint Commission, and state regulations.
• Prepare documentation for audits, inspections, and accreditation surveys.
• Lead investigations and root cause analyses for employee incidents and health-related events.
• Maintain and analyze employee health and safety data, including screenings, immunizations, OSHA 300 logs, injury statistics, and workers’ compensation claims.
• Generate and present reports for leadership, highlighting trends, risk factors, and program effectiveness.
• Use data and metrics to evaluate the impact of programs on safety, claims reduction, and employee satisfaction.
• Serve as a member of the Safety Committee and Emergency Preparedness Team.
• Act as subject matter expert for occupational safety, employee health, and injury prevention.
• Collaborate with HR, Risk Management, Clinical Operations, Education, and Quality Improvement teams.
• Promote a culture of safety, wellness, and proactive risk management.
Education and/or Experience

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyze data and implement process improvements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS systems, and electronic health record management.
Strong organizational and leadership skills with attention to detail and confidentiality.Other Qualifications: Expert knowledge of OSHA, ADA, FMLA, HIPAA, and workers’ compensation laws. Strong understanding of infection control, mobile workforce challenges, and employee safety standards.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions.
