**Responsibilities**
The Director of Content Development and Publishing is responsible for leading the strategy, creation, and optimization of content published across Ascension’s digital ecosystem, including web, social, campaign, and emerging platforms. This leader will guide a team of content strategists and content managers to deliver high-quality, patient-centered, and brand-aligned content that drives engagement, supports patient acquisition, and strengthens Ascension’s voice in the market.
This role requires a strong blend of editorial, platform expertise, digital strategy, and operational experience. The Director will collaborate across Marketing, Digital Content Operations, SEO, Creative, and Product to ensure content is structured, scalable, measurable, and aligned with enterprise goals. The Director will also play a key role in shaping how Ascension’s content adapts to AI-driven search and discovery—ensuring visibility, accuracy, and trust within environments like Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, and other generative engines.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Manage day-to-day content publishing across web platforms (Sitecore CMS, microsites, landing pages).
+ Translate business needs into structured, patient-friendly content that supports user journeys.
+ Partner with product and marketing teams to provide requirements and related acceptance criteria in the delivery of service line pages, campaign content, and elevated location/provider pages.
+ Monitor and report on content performance using analytics dashboards (GA4, Sitecore XM Cloud, SEO tools).
+ Implement SEO best practices including metadata, schema markup, internal linking, and keyword alignment.
+ Advance AI Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): Partner with SEO and Product teams to ensure Ascension content remains visible, accurate, and trusted within AI-driven discovery environments such as Google AI Overviews and generative search results.
+ Evaluate and integrate responsible AI tools to support content ideation, tagging, translation, and workflow automation while maintaining editorial oversight and compliance with healthcare content standards.
+ Monitor and report on how AI platforms and search engines surface Ascension content, translating insights into updates for metadata, structured content models, and authorship practices.
+ Identify opportunities for improving conversion (CTAs, forms, page layouts, patient pathways).
+ Enforce content governance frameworks (style guides, workflows, approval processes, translation workflows).
+ Partner with compliance and accessibility teams to ensure ADA, HIPAA, and brand standards are met.
+ Maintain version control and content lifecycle documentation.
+ Manager user permissions and groups for workflows in the SiteCore platform.
+ Coordinate with writers, editors, designers, and SEO specialists to deliver integrated content.
+ Support content operations initiatives (DAM, translation workflows, knowledge graphs, structured content models).
+ Manage timelines, approvals, and stakeholder communications for content projects.
**Requirements**
Education:
+ High School diploma equivalency with 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 3 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management.
**Additional Preferences**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, or related field (Master’s preferred).
+ 8–10+ years of experience in digital content strategy, development, or editorial leadership.
+ Proven success leading content teams in large, multi-location or multi-brand organizations.
+ Strong understanding of SEO, digital storytelling, structured content, and content management systems.
+ Excellent writing, editing, and messaging skills with keen attention to detail.
+ Experience with governance frameworks, compliance workflows, and medical/healthcare content preferred.
+ Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
+ Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Jira, Asana, MS Project).
+ Experience with digital, IT, or healthcare-related projects is a plusFamiliarity with Agile, Scrum, or SAFe methodologies.
+ Ability to influence stakeholders and drive decisions.
+ Experience managing vendor relationships and contracts.
+ Comfort working in matrixed or enterprise environments.
