Director of Construction

Position Overview 

 

The Director of Construction is tasked with managing fiber optic network performance in accordance with industry, corporate and customer standards in outside plant applications. The Director of Construction will be responsible for estimating and controlling all capital and expense projects, supervising the installation of and maintenance of conduit, fiber optic cable and related equipment, developing and implementing work schedules necessary for supervising the daily work of all subordinates to provide locating of the network and repairs and maintenance of same. Training subordinates in the proper use and maintenance of OSP equipment is mandatory. Acting as the company liaison, the Director of Construction will represent corporate interests when interfacing with local, state, and federal governmental agencies in matters affecting the fiber optic network. Additionally, providing technical support to the sales, marketing, network support and splicing service departments will be required. “Trouble Management” reporting, emergency restoration / disaster recovery and general contractor and other vendor related duties are required.

Requirements

BS Engineering related field or Construction Management or related experienceStrong interpersonal, organizational and communication skillsProficient w/PCs, Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Project, etc), OSP Insight, Visio, DeLorme and other mapping softwareCurrent valid driver’s licenseUtility construction experience in metropolitan, rural, and long-haul arenas 

 

Other Skills/Abilities

Ability to understand mapping programs and key identifiers in a fiber optic network, read and utilize GPS units and record network positioningAbility to manage and / or prepare, splice and test FOC via use of power meters / light source, OTDRs and reporting requirements, fusion splice equipment and various types of locating devicesKnowledge of “Call Before You Dig” rules and regulations as they apply to a network utility providerKnowledge of grounding principles in an underground utility networkKnowledge of OSHA safety rules and regulations as they apply to locating and providing repair and maintenance within a fiber optic networkKnowledge and ability to operate a FOC monitoring system
